[The Devil’s Plan] Season 2! Netflix has it all planned?
PD Jung Jong-yeon’s Brain Survival Reality [The Devil’s Plan] Season 2, [The Devil’s Plan: Death Room] coming soon!
Producer Jung Jong-yeon's brain survival reality <The Devil’s Plan>, which has drawn attention since Season 1, is returning with Season 2 <The Devil’s Plan: Death Room>. Four of the 14 survival contestants, Yoon So-hee, Chuu, Jung Hyun-gyu, and Choi Hyun-joon, reunited after a fierce brain battle lasting seven days and six nights. In the interview that followed after the photo shoot, we were able to hear about the scene of the fierce survival battle. First of all, we asked them why they decided to appear on the show. Chuu said, “I'm a huge survival variety show enthusiast. I really enjoyed watching the last season of <The Devil's Plan>, and [omitted] I was curious how it would be different from watching it on Netflix. I think it was half curiosity and half a sense of challenge.” Yoon So-hee said, “I’m similar to Chuu. I wondered how far I could go when faced with an extreme situation. I appeared on the show to discover a side of myself that I hadn't even known.” Jung Hyun-gyu said, “Watching the last season, I also imagined myself appearing on it. I thought I could do well. So as soon as I received the offer, I said, ‘Yes, I’m excited!’ and joined the show. (Laughs)” Choi Hyun-joon said, “My major is math, so my daily routine and life was solving problems everyday. In mathematics you can bite and chew until you find the solution to that problem, but ‘survival brain games’ are different in that you need to find the most ideal answer within a limited time. I was most drawn to that aspect.”
As for the most cutthroat moment in the game, Yoon So-hee recounted, “We all tried our best to survive, so there were a few cutthroat moments. I did think, ‘It’s just a game, do we really have to go this far?’” Chuu said with a smile, "In this season, spaces were divided into the prison block and the living space block. Several people were imprisoned at once in the prison block, and they were in conflict with the living space block. So everyone is on guard and in competition, both between individuals and between teams. I was so scared. (Laughs) I wanted to show that I wasn’t a pushover, even if I might not be someone to fear, but I don’t know if it worked.” Choi Hyun-joon said, “All of us who appeared on “The Devil’s Plan 2” basically had a guarantee of exoneration. Our task in that place was to compete in the toughest and most private way. So I wasn't worried about ‘How the worst side of me would look’, and I think we all just played as our most instinctive selves to fit the purpose of the show.”
Meanwhile, Yoon So-hee and Choi Hyun-joon are fellow alumni of KAIST. Yoon So-hee said with a smile, “Since we are from the same school, I did wish that Hyun-joon would do well, but I also thought that I could bribe him or rely on him in a difficult situation.”
We asked about who left the deepest impression when the 14 cast members met for the first time. Jung Hyun-gyu said, “Lee Sedol. He’s the one who beat the AI after all.” Chuu said, “Unexpectedly, Hyun-gyu oppa. His gaze was unusual. I thought he would be so smart and decisive. Totally calculating. But in parentheses, positive! (Laughs)” Yoon So-hee said, “For me, 7high. He’s a poker player but he wore a baseball jumper on the first day. I felt that he was atypically relaxed, wearing that casual outfit.” Choi Hyun-joon said, “For me, Tino, the board game YouTuber. He said he’s only played board games all his life, so I wondered how good he’d be at games. I thought that I should absolutely not get on his bad side. (Laughs)”
<The Devil’s Plan: Death Room> will premiere globally on Netflix on May 6. More of the pictorial and interview with the cast members Yoon So-hee, Chuu, Jung Hyun-gyu, and Choi Hyun-joon will be available in the May issue of <Cosmopolitan> and on the website.
