Yves’ Self-Q&A
Things that Yves would like to tell you through her new song “Tik Tok”.
Q. A greeting for the readers
Hello, Rolling Stone Korea readers. I’m Yves, who’s greeting you through my new song, “Tik Tok”. The weather’s quite hot, so please watch for the heat and eat lots of cool watermelon.
Q. Recent updates
I got to perform at a summer festival which was on my bucket list, and I’ve had lots of opportunities to meet fans so I received tons of energy and love. I also went to Italy to film the “Tik Tok” visualizer, and even though it was brief, I got to see the sights of Italy and meet kind people, so I felt healed and it was really nice. After coming back home, I’ve gotten a bit lethargic in some ways, so I’ve been trying to take good care of myself. When I rest I try to set down my anxieties and worries and be at ease, but when I’m still feeling heavy, I clean my room. When I see the objects being put away in front of my eyes, it’s like my worries are also disappearing one by one.
Q. About the new song “Tik Tok”?
The new song “Tik Tok” is about the fights and ennui that arise between lovers, laid out over a lively rhythm. If you focus on the lyrics, you feel upset like, “If I was the other person I would feel sad,” but if you listen to the overall song in a light way, it ironically feels upbeat, maybe because of the rhythm. So I think it’s well-suited for the summer.
Q. A new charm that you want to show off
In my debut song “Loop (feat. Lil Cherry)” I showed off the appearance of a dreamy but refreshing young girl, while in “Tik Tok” there’s a more mature feel. The song’s atmosphere is like that, but also I practiced and improved a lot vocally, so I want to show you a more refined and flexible vocal and tone. And I hope all this is being delivered well to the fans and listeners. Also I had a lot of conversations with the company about visual aspects for the visualizer filming, and thankfully a lot of my opinions were reflected too, so I hope to be complimented that the visuals themselves are also “fashionable” or “sensual”.
Q. Something that happened as you prepared the new song
When I first received this song I wasn’t too worried about recording, but once I went into it, it wasn’t so easy to sing along to a swing rhythm. I needed to stay on beat but also make the emotion come alive, and that was a little difficult. Also there’s a little rap part in verse 2, and I had to wrack my brain about how to set the right tone, so I remember those moments too.
Q. Upcoming plans
Since “Tik Tok” is revealed now, I’m planning to pick up the pace even more for the remaining album preparations and work towards the comeback. To do that, I’ll need to get healthier both mentally and physically. I’m going to exercise hard, and try not to forget how to love myself. Because I want to meet fans for a long time to come in a healthy way.
Q. Parting words
It was so nice to meet with Rolling Stone Korea again after so long, and I was grateful for this time letting me tell my honest stories. I worked hard to prepare “Tik Tok” so please give it lots of love, and I’d be very grateful if you looked forward to my upcoming comeback song lots. Oh! And please don’t forget to love Rolling Stone Korea too.
