Hello it's Darly the lyricist! Today I have another track with the Loona friends It's a sidetrack by Loona yyxy I'll be discussing "One Way" :)
<one way> Intro.
Working on this around the same time as the title track, I feel like I was really busy Loona doesn't have many ballads among their songs and I'm the type who finds ballads really difficult 😭(...) The girls are youthful and pretty, so it was hard to determine where to place the line in terms of sentimentality It would feel old-fashioned to tell a story that's too serious or deep just because it's a ballad But the track itself did feel sad and serious when I listened, and it's always difficult to find the right balance Eventually I settled on a late-teens high schooler in terms of portraying age then I thought hey, I used to be one of those, so there's no reason I can't write this (ㅋㅋㅋㅋ) and my willpower started to really burn
Writing Process
In order to immerse myself into the LOONA girls, first I tried to remember my own youthful days as much as possible but it was pretty hard at first (ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ) How long ago was my late teens(...) I felt like I could never come up with something the kids could sing, if I wrote from my perspective today I was pondering, and actually there's this ballad song I wrote for the first time when I was 17 or 18, and I remembered that song ㅋㅋㅋ
It's so cringy when I think back to it, but when I recalled the emotions from that time, it was very easy to immerse myself I felt that I shouldn't write the lyrics to be too difficult, let's write them to be as pure and lean as possible instead As for the title, in the chorus when it goes "Our love is me alone, one way", it originally used to say some other "way" in there While listening to that, I thought of the phrase "one way", and the translations came up with "one way street" At that point I had a firm outline, of a love that I practice by myself, in one direction only
Lyrics Interpretation
In this unnamed and unfamiliar place I think I've lost my way No one comes here
Which way to go As if trapped in a maze I'm walking aimlessly
I pictured a road stretched out endlessly, someone struggling to decide in front of a forked path, and images like road signs too But the "unnamed and unfamiliar place" here is not a real place and instead refers to the narrator's state of mind The fact that "no one comes here" means that the door to her heart is closed off The narrator has just gone through a breakup, and in the phrase "walking aimlessly" the lyrics say that even though it's all over, her heart is still moving towards this person
If I can see you, if I do see you I want to maybe ask once, where I should go You're my destiny, wherever you are
I think this repetition, "If I can see you, if I do see you" helps us feel how earnest and yearning the narrator's feelings are And I think the way she says "want to maybe ask once" also imparts grief in a subdued way

I thought of the image of the "road" a lot like those photos above so I wanted to express that directly I wanted to emphasize that there was a road we walked together, and now I'm the only one on it
At the end, when they sing "I know, I know" in a sad tone like they're resigned, that hurts my heart ㅠㅠ The very first part I wrote in the chorus was "Our love is me alone, one way" when I wrote it down I suddenly got goosebumpsㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It felt like, I'm grieving and hurting so much, but this is permanent - 😭 ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Later on our LOONA friends wrote me a long message on the album, and they also said that was a memorable lyric and their favorite part of the song I thought ah, we all tend to think the same way ㅋㅋ I wonder if you all thought that way too 😵 I'm sure it's okay to upload this kind of thing right? ㅋㅋㅋ
