Kim Lip : It was our first group pictorial shoot of 2025 and it was so much fun. We look so cold in the photo. (Laughs) I feel good that we look so pretty in it. The theme was “ARTMS’ winter story”. What is ARTMS’ stance as you face the new year? Haseul : Passion. We’re gonna place first on Billboard! Our next song is incredible. We’re gonna become a girl group that takes over the world. As the new year arrives, we have this ambition that we are going to become incredible people who overcome ourselves. (Laughs) You also recently successfully completed your world tour concert Moonshot at Macau. Jinsoul : That was my third tour, and the first one that was this long. I wanted to tell the members how proud I am, and I’m also really proud of myself. Also I learned for the first time that we have so many fans globally, so it was such a happy time. I want to go on even more tours based on this one. You showed a variety of stages not only from your first full album , but also solo performances. Which stage did you feel the most fondness for? Choerry : It’s not a performance, but I felt most emotional about the song “Butterfly Effect”. It reflects our desire to “fly into this world”. So I always feel choked up whenever I do this one. Heejin : It wasn’t from the world tour, but I think our showcase performance felt the most emotional for me. We showed off performances like “Virtual Angel” and “Butterfly Effect”, and I got really nervous because it was the first reveal of ARTMS. Somehow it was really nerve wracking, from my desire to do well as ARTMS. (Laughs) Most memorable moment while performing? Heejin : We performed in Brazil for the first time during the world tour, and when we performed “Sparkle”, the fans all popped sparkling powder for an event. I’ve never been so happy on stage as that, I think. It was so memorable as to count it on one hand. Choerry : The fans made a video for an event and showed it to us during a show, and it was so moving. The way each person gave us authentic encouragement and kind words really touched me. Is there a change you’ve noticed about yourself while onstage? Kim Lip : I’m usually really shy. So I used to be bad about hyping up the crowd like, “Let’s go!” while performing. (Laughs) But this time around, I found myself doing that just naturally. I felt like, “Did I get a bit braver?” and I think I’ve grown a bit. (Laughs) Haseul : Everyone has definitely gotten much better at crisis management. When you’re traveling to many cities, something is always bound to happen, and I think by now we’re good at reacting to any situation. Recently, my song started playing when Heejin’s song was supposed to play. But Heejin didn’t panic and just sang my song so boldly and kept the show going. So the fans were also able to laugh it off and move on. (Laughs) As for Haseul, you’ve recently released a single, . Haseul : To show off a different side than ARTMS, I released somewhat more subdued songs as digital singles, first with “Plastic Candy” and then “Fragile Eyes”. I’m glad that the fans seem to really like it. Sing us a verse of it. (Check it out on YouTube channel.) The latest title track “Virtual Angel” contained the message that regardless of whether others think the love towards idols is real or not, perhaps it is real for the fan. What is the love that each of you feel? Haseul : Wanting nothing. I think love is just viewing someone for who they are and being happy just with their presence. Fans also feel this way. Feeling happy and feeling love just from seeing us!! I think that’s love. All : Yeah, that’s love. (Laughs) You looked like angels in the MV. If a real angel came to you and said they’d grant you a wish? Choerry : I want to ask for the ability to teleport. The ability to move wherever I want! Kim Lip : I want to ask for a healing ability that lets my loved ones live without even a minor illness for as long as they live. Making them never get sick and live their whole life with strong stamina. (Laughs) Any tips on how to get immersed into the lore of ARTMS, continuing from that of LOONA? Haseul : We’re such a great place for lore. When we first debuted, this whole thing was so uncommon that we’d get questions like “What is lore?” But I think we’ve been doing a good job helping to pioneer it. Even just watching the “Birth” or “Virtual Angel” music videos, you’ll probably have to study for a month. That’s where the fun is, and that’s what our symbolism is. Also you really need to ponder over every line of our lyrics. You have to translate even the English lyrics. Now I’ve given you all the sweet tips. (Laughs) How did you feel when you first heard the group’s name? Kim Lip : I liked it. Of course, at first it was a little difficult and unfamiliar, but now I like how it’s a name that feels like only we could have. And we came up with the nickname ‘Arr’ for those who have a hard time memorizing, so please say it cutely. (Laughs) Although there is no official group leader, who’s the member you can rely on the most? Heejin : Everyone is reliable because we do lean on each other a lot, but to pick just one, I think it’s Haseul unnie. She speaks so well. I have a hard time organizing what I want to say and sometimes I can’t really put things into sentences, but unnie is really good at neatly organizing what I want to express. What a reliable unnie. She’s like a grown-up. (Laughs) Haseul : Thanks. (Laughs) A moment when you felt like you had gotten closer to the members? Haseul : I felt this even more strongly while touring, but there were a lot of moments that I could only get through thanks to the members. Even when I’m sick or hurt, the members take such good care of me. One time Heejin and I were crying and just a mess, because we’re really scared of pigeons. Jinsoul came up to me quietly and said, “It’s okay. All the pigeons left, they’re gone. So follow me,” and she gave me a hug. My tears just started flowing. I realized, “I’m relying on them even for the small things.” I really think I can do anything diligently because I’m with the members. When you disagree on something, how do you resolve the situation? Haseul : Even when our opinions are split, we just talk it all out right there when all five of us are together. We always listen to everyone’s thoughts and find the compromise. (Laughs) Something you’ve really gotten into lately? Kim Lip : I’m not all that into it, but a little bit. (Laughs) Recently I was gifted a Tamagotchi and it’s so much fun to play for the first time since elementary school. Reminds me of the old days and I felt good about it. Jinsoul : When I’m into one food I eat it for a really long time, and right now it’s waffles. I looked on my delivery app and I’ve been eating them for a month. (Laughs) When’s the last time you had waffles? Jinsoul : Yesterday! (Laughs) What is “youth” for ARTMS, who are in the youth of their early-mid 20s? Choerry : I think youth is when you have a ton of experiences. I met the unnies and got to have diverse experiences and I feel like I’ve grown a lot, so I think right now is my youth. While living intensely, there are moments in which you feel shaken. How do you get over that? Haseul : I just walk for 2~3 hours, aimlessly. When I’m walking in the wee hours of the morning when no one is out, I turn up my music loudly and that feels a little freeing. Also hiking! It’s really nice. (Laughs) What’s a side of yourself that you don’t want to lose? Heejin : These moments right now. My memory is not great so I forget things quickly. So I’ve been taking lots of photos recently. So many that I’m thinking, ‘Why am I taking all these?’ Whenever I look back, I miss the old moments so much. So that’s why I started documenting each moment. (Laughs) Kim Lip : For me, it’s youth? I visited my family recently and I hadn’t seen Mom and Dad in a while, and they had gotten older. I thought at that moment that I hoped the youth of the people I love wouldn’t fade away. For myself too, I’m sure this very moment is when I’m most beautiful. What is ARTMS’ happiness index now? All : 100%! We’re happy. (Laughing) Heejin : No reason for it. I’m just glad that she’s Haseul unnie, that she’s Jinsoul unnie, that she’s Choerry, that she’s Lip unnie. I’m just thankful that these people are my people. I’m so happy that I can be ARTMS with the five of us, and that’s why it’s 100% ‘ARTMS is __’ - how would you like this blank to be filled? Haseul : A roly-poly toy. Because we never stay down. The thing we heard most often from fans while touring was “You guys never give up and always move towards your dreams”, and that’s really true. We never give up. How will you start this upcoming new year? Kim Lip : I’m going to start this upcoming new year by reading our ARTMS’ pictorial! Jinsoul : We’re preparing a lot of different things. What Yves Did with “I Did” [EN:Boxing] “I’m definitely listening to music, but it feels like I’m seeing something. I would really like to emulate that ability, and I often listen to it because I would also like to create music that is immersive like that.” During the round interview for her second mini-album “I Did”, Yves picked Caroline Polacheck when asked who her role model was. Yves, who says she makes visualizations called “mood boards” to feel a general vibe when coming up with musical ideas, expressed interest in music that doesn’t just stop at “something you hear”, but goes on to being “something you can see”. “I Did”, coming 6 months after her first solo work “LOOP”, is an album that wholly reflects the pursuit of that aesthetic. CEO of agency PAIX PER MIL and producer for this album, MILLIC, also described having made an album “not with music, but with scenes”. CBS No Cut News looked a little closer at Yves’ second mini-album, “I Did”. In the first episode of the interview, which was done through writing on the 3rd, we will hear about the title song “Viola” and about the album as a whole. Producer Millic and artist Yves answered in the “Music” article. Q&A format below. 1. I’d like to hear how you came to name your second mini-album “I Did”, and what the production team and Yves “did” in this album. Producer Millic: With environments and systems changing a lot for Yves as she went solo, having come from group activities, I did see Yves struggling with that personally. So that’s why the name of this album was “I Did”, in hopes that she takes in a lot of positive vibes and confidence through this album. And though more so than “having done something”, it’s still the process of doing something even now. Through “I Did”, I think Yves’ colors are settling in more, and that she has been doing a good job in showing that her character or spectrum has widened, so I think that could be seen as what “she did” through this album. Yves: What I did in this album was... The album “I Did” is an extension of “LOOP”, and before work on the album started, I was quite worried about doing a good job of concluding that. Despite that, I think I was able to gather the courage to do well on album activities. 2. In the album’s press kit, it says that you intended to make “in this album, not songs, but scenes” - what did you mean by that? And I’m also curious why you chose this direction. Producer Millic: What we call “scenes” can be an image you feel visually, or it could be an environment, or something that’s not simply a “song” but the situation, environment, attitude, and things you can see visually; all of that was in focus as we made this album in that direction. Although a song that’s simply "good" could be worked on at any time, in order to be sure of the message conveyed based on an artist and character, I think it was because we thought that the delivery of this could become clear if we approached it while imagining things in such a visual way. 3. The title track is “Viola”. Yves had “Hashtag” in mind as the title, but I’m curious about the strengths of both songs and why “Viola” became the title track. Producer Millic: The strength of “Hashtag” is that the song is good? The context is similar to the last question, but the meaning behind “Viola” itself as a song and its visuals fit the album’s purpose very well, so I think it was certain to be the title track in every aspect. If you only look at the song, since people have different tastes, one might feel that way, but from the producer’s viewpoint, “Viola” had the message and visuals that were in line with the album’s, so it became the title track. 4. I’m curious about how the other B-sides, “Gone Girl”, “Tik Tok”, and “DIM”, were added to this album, and how the songs were positioned. Also about the reason for all the B-side lyrics being predominantly in English. Producer Millic: The reason why the B-sides are mostly in English is because of the message this album has, so I wanted more fans abroad to grasp it much more easily. So we mostly used the universal language of English. I thought about the positioning of the songs from multiple perspectives, from a strategic one, or what feelings we wanted to convey when actually listening to the album, and so on… After combining many viewpoints and reasons, we ended up with the current arrangement. 5. In a past interview, Yves said she enjoyed and looked forward to a third-party view and analysis of her. Where does the company think the singer Yves’ strengths and potential lie? Producer Millic: Yves’ strength is that her tastes are solid? “Character” is a very important aspect of being a solo artist, and I think having firm tastes is a strength in that, as you deepen that, you can more clearly convey whatever you want to deliver. And I think a strength and potential of hers is that she is not only good at singing, but also good at performances at the same time. 6. While working on the songs, which went the most smoothly, and which was most demanding? And if you have an anecdote from recording? Yves: “DIM” was the most particular to work on. CEO Millic is like a ghost when it comes to bending vocals, he’s spookily good at calling out when notes are bent with the wrong levels of power. So before, when I sang a part wrong, I used to say, “Oh, I’ll go again!” But now, we don’t even need to speak to know when it’s time to redo a part, and he’ll play the tracks in succession for me, which I find scary but also fun about him. But for “DIM”, I found it hard to sing in an effortless way, and I think the smoothest song was, unexpectedly, “Viola”. I think my tone was reflected well in the hyperpop genre and the producers said it was really good, so we made quick progress through it. Producer Millic: For songs like “DIM”, it’s actually not so much the performance of the song, the real importance comes in the catchiness. I think one difficulty of working on this album was the big lack of time we had, and recording while things still felt unfamiliar. In the case of the title track “Viola”, we changed the arrangement a lot to keep improving it until the very end, but I think that as well was an issue of not having enough time. So although the recording went smoothly from the producer’s perspective, honestly, I don’t think there were any songs that went smoothly. (Laugh) 7. Could you tell us where the “sense of space and visuals created by the meeting of sounds” that producer Millic mentioned shows itself the most? Yves: In “DIM” there’s a part of the track where my voice drops out and just the instrumental plays. Despite the key part of vocals being missing, they produced the track to leave a lingering impression of those vocals from before. That song was written in a very spatial way, so if you listen to it while being still, it kind of feels like you’re in a different world. So I think that part feels like what the CEO said. Producer Millic: I wrote “DIM” while imagining Yves on her own. Rather than a song made to show her performance, it’s a track where I tried to convey a visual aspect that could be imagined through the category of sound. 8. Producer Millic: How satisfied are you with the album “I Did”? Yves: I’ve been gifted all these amazing songs, so I give the songs a 10 out of 5. I want to do well in the future as well and there are many things I’d like to change looking back so, always having regrets, I give myself a 2 out of 5. X” as well as Mark’s “200” worked on this, and I’m curious how you came to work together. Director: While looking for the director of the music video, as soon as I found Director Lee Ho-soo, I felt that he was good, according to my own taste. And I felt intuitively that there would be a good synergy when the things that the director wanted to show, besides his work, are combined with the artist Yves' popularity. So I proposed the music video for this album and he accepted it willingly, so we were able to proceed with it. 2. What did you want the “Viola” MV to embody the most? Looking back at the final version, how satisfied are you with it? Director: The thing I wanted to embody the most was “minimalism” and the key point was for the artistic items within it to feel fresh. I thought that I would like it to feel simple to the viewer but not in a boring way. Actually due to internal coordination, there were more cuts and flows that I wanted to add but wasn’t able to, so there was room for improvement as well personally. 3. There were many interesting parts, such as various circular objets, angry-looking portraits with slightly changing expressions, Yves’ upper and lower halves appearing separated but united as one body, and text growing or moving to fit the lyrics. Is there anything in the music video you want others to view carefully? It would also be nice if you picked a few scenes that you like. Yves: I think I’ve already told you all the scenes I like? (Laughs) I felt that the director’s abilities were impressive in how he constantly replaced the shape of a circle with various objets in a way that doesn’t feel boring for those 3 minutes, despite it being just one shape. In fact, even though there weren’t many sets for the shoot, there was a scene at the end where the truck pulled forward and I was left alone, and that kind of effect also utilizes the set, doesn’t it? It was very interesting to even use empty space as a set, and it’s my favourite part because it feels like it leaves a lingering impression. Director: I also think that the office art that used the truck was the most important scene. After that, I also liked the on-set performance scenes made up of LEDs. 4. The music video starts with Yves dancing, and there are scenes where you dance alone or where her facial expressions are highlighted, so her role in performing and acting must have been especially important. I’m curious what sort of things you discussed while making this. Yves: As the lyrics of “Viola” aren’t all happy, and they’re sad in a way, I tried not to have overly bright expressions. The director also instructed me to show slightly less emotion so I think there were more scenes of myself seeming a bit less energetic than how I usually am but I think of that as a charm. Director: I remember how I repeatedly said to Yves at the set of the MV, “This work will remain with you forever so don’t worry about anyone, and be confident while doing this.” 5. What did you focus on when composing the choreography and performance for “Viola”? Performance director ItsMia: I think the part that I paid most attention to in the choreography and performance of “Viola” was the visualisation of “space”, which keeps appearing in the lyrics. I think I mainly used the hand gestures to express it in the chorus parts, and the overall feeling of the performance was bouncy to fit the hyperpop genre, but contrastingly chic at the same time, so I worked hard to get both feelings without giving up on either! Personally I think Yves understood the performance and expressed it very well, so I’m content! 6. Through music shows, you displayed various styles such as open-side outfit + ponytail with bangs down, hair with a band + outfit with vivid horizontal stripes, sporty dolphin pants and cropped shirt + necktie. For each of these, please explain what you were going for. Yves: Since this album is about the emotions I faced in order to find peace, multiple egos became the focus, so I worked with the director. I wore many outfits that had character to show unique and diverse concepts, and it was well received so I liked that too. Personally, my favourite outfit is one from my last music show; this outfit actually came to be because I told the director a lot about what I wanted to pursue. I was sure that the fans would like it, so I looked forward to it a lot. Visual director Nagi: As for the overall concept mood, I think I was definitely trying to bring a minimalism similar to that found in the music video. For the dolphin pants + shirt + tie, I wanted to pursue an unconventional style by combining office vibes and sportiness. But the key here is that I thought that the unconventional vibes would be amplified when the artist known as Yves wore this outfit, and I made that my goal. For the striped outfit, it was a candidate at first but after fittings, it suited her so well that it became a main outfit. I actually thought that the elements that seem like a late-90s to early-00s aerobics look was more fresh when worn today and in more of the right direction and concept and that it fit Yves well. The fans also liked it so I was glad. The ponytail and suit outfit seems like an office look, but it’s actually very avant-garde. When looked at in detail, it’s reminiscent of Jean Paul Gaultier’s collection from the 1900s. It was a challenge to attempt this look, but I think it looked good on Yves. 7. With an interest in the visual aspects, Yves has shown that she would like a lot of mutual discussion, even having mentioned explaining with PowerPoints she makes herself. How involved was Yves, and how was she as a “collaborative partner”? Visual director Nagi: Whenever an artist really explains visual aspects that fit their album’s concept, I think I am able to approach it from an unforeseen perspective, so I think she’s a collaborative partner who instils in me a fresh view on things. 8. In the album there are fun inclusions such as crossword puzzles and lottery tickets. Whose idea was that? Designer Phillip: I thought there was much left to show the public and the fans more about the artist known as Yves, as well as showing them more about the concept of the album. So as I was thinking about how to show these, I thought of crossword puzzles, so I went through with that by throwing the fans a quiz. I’m curious about why a song in which you sing, “I need my space,” is titled “ Viola ” and what it means. The title of the song, , means a viola flower. When the song was completed and its title was not decided yet, CEO Millic was thinking about the title and said that the viola suddenly came to mind as an image reminiscent of me. A viola means “think of me” in the language of flowers. I named it as such because it seemed to go well with Yves’ heart for her fans and with the lyrics. 7. [RSK] What’s the one song that you were particularly drawn to? The song I was particularly drawn to is . When I first heard the guide, I was worried because it sounded so hard, but the result was better than I thought. There’s also a behind-the-scenes story where I edited it to make it sound better; I said to IOAH, “Wouldn’t it be good to swap the second and the first verses?” and swapped them. 8. [RSK] I heard you wanted to make this EP a scene, not a song. If you could pick a movie that’s similar to this EP, which one comes to mind? If you think about it from the point of view of the person singing the song... I like the movie “Josee, the Tiger and the Fish”, but at the end of the movie, there is a scene where Josee is left alone and grills mackerel forlornly. I think that comes to mind first because I thought it was similar to the scene when I was recording the lyrics of “Viola”, “from behind my collapsed stage, look at me, desensitised.” 9. [RSK] Apart from the album, your favourite movies and books, music, games... I’d also like to hear some stories about your taste. I like movies like “All About Lily Chou-Chou”, “Monster” and “Moonlit Winter”, because I like the soundtracks embedded in movies more. I also listen to the soundtracks often. As for books, I used to like poetry collections, but these days, I try to read psychological and self-improvement books, and as for games, I don’t like aggressive and violent ones, so I like ones with a calm and peaceful style, like “Animal Crossing”. 10. [RSK] What message penetrates [I Did], does Yves think? A rainbow after the rain. 11. [RSK] What were your thoughts after completing your first solo promotions for [LOOP]? I can’t see myself completely objectively in my daily life, but when fans say it’s an Yves-like choice, I subjectively think that to be Yves-like is to be “scared, but still have the courage to choose an adventure, and to eventually do what you set out to do." The second drink I ordered was The book by author Han Kang-nim who's been a hot topic for her recent Nobel Prize for Literature 'The Vegetarian'!!! The color was kind of greenish, just like you'd expect from the word vegetarian ! It mixes a lot of herb-based whiskeys This drink contains absinthe What is absinthe, you ask..? It's a thing.. You don't need to know... Tastes like tire.. Sigh The important thing is I tried The Vegetarian whiskey ♡ Haha goodbye Third, I ordered this whiskey called 'The Moon and Sixpence' , but why did I t;aeeke this photo next to The Vegetarian book? With sweet visuals and taste It felt like I'd fall in love, just like the title Neejinie loves Ourii♡ Second, I ordered this whiskey called 'Catcalling' This one feels like the alcohol afficionados would really love it You can taste the whiskey quite clearly, and the right amount of sweetness for quite nice balance Also that candied cherry on top was tasty! Personally do not recommend the cherries on top of the We Love Atmosphere ♡ The last whiskey I ordered was called 'My Woman's Fruit' This whiskey had the strongest dryness out of the three Oh wait maybe they said this was gin and not whiskey.. Legal disputes have made it difficult for the group to look forward to full-group activities, and the members have dispersed into groups and solo artistes. Having started in a group, she was worried and anxious as she went solo. She was worried that fans might not like her ‘solo’ music. But now Yves knows. Released six months after the release of her debut album LOOP in May this year, her new album, I Did , unravels various emotions that Yves faced in her process of finding peace as an artiste. Yves has not yet included songs which she participated in writing in her solo albums yet. Yves replied, “The company told me that they wanted me to fully trust them with the music, and to follow them.” She said, “When I write lyrics and compose songs, my emotivity and colour come out. On the one hand, I wanted to include such things, but on the other hand, I was also curious about the different sides of me that the company saw, from a third party perspective. I agreed to have all my songs be done by the company up until this album. I will have a lot of time after the tour, and I’m aiming to include my songs starting with the next album. Would Yves be satisfied with the end product of a third party’s interpretation of her? “Yes!” Yves said. “I was satisfied and had a lot of fun, and I was grateful for this process. While promoting as part of a group, I had a fixed position. Reporter Lee Jae-hoon After a tumultuous road, Yves (Ha Sooyoung) from the group LOONA has discovered a courage by the name of centripetal force. The members of LOONA, who enjoyed immense popularity overseas, including entering Billboard’s main album chart Billboard 200, were scattered against their will due to conflicts and disputes with their original agency. During the following unintended hiatus, Yves peered closer into herself. When Yves, who is closer to an introvert, was promoting as part of the group, she tried to aim outward with a centrifugal force, enveloping a broader boundary. That is to say, she only felt satisfied when she had external validation. Starting with her solo debut album LOOP , released in May, she was armed with the energy of centripetal force. Instead of accepting the force majeure, she exercised a cohesive force to focus on herself and challenge herself without hesitation at the things she could do. In other words, she could satisfy herself just by acknowledging herself. Her second EP, I Did , is an album in which she looks into herself more deeply with that centripetal force. Yves, who had been scared to face her pitch-black inner side and was playing hide-and-seek with it, finally declares that she has the steely strength to face it. Despite the story being so introspective, she also showed the courage to not write and compose these songs. This is because she needed to transform musically. In this album, Yves focuses on showing her well-refined method acting. In a world crafted by lyricists and composers belonging to Yves’ label Paix Per Mil, including executive producer Millic (Cheon Seung-hyeon), with her as the subject, Yves shows off a peak in immersion. Yves made her home here this year, believing in Paix Per Mil’s music and production sense. The following is a recent Q&A session between Yves and reporters held in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. -The word “space” is repeated a lot in your title song “Viola”. What kind of space were you thinking about as you sang it? “The message that runs through this album is peace. It’s the element of my happiness that accounts for the biggest share. All the emotions I faced to chase down that peace, I melted them all into the track. And I think I needed some mental space, too. The word “stage” also appears in the lyrics of “Viola”, and I wanted that to be a time that acts as an on/off when the fans heard it. I sang the song thinking, ‘I hope they can relax or be comforted by listening to this song.’” -I think there must have be a reason why the theme of this album is peace. “The first thing I said I wanted to show when I signed the contract with Paix Per Mil was my candid self. Things I couldn’t show when I was working as part of a group. It could be boldness in terms of fashion and visuals, but I wanted to be honest through music about the emotions I felt. This album is an extension of my previous work, LOOP . With LOOP and this album, I tried to find the happiest way to do music, and I worked on it thinking, ‘Let’s be honest about how I feel.’ These are the things I made while I was thinking about happy music.” -What’s the biggest difference between now and when you were in LOONA? “When I was in LOONA, I debuted right away without a trainee period, so it really wasn’t enough to infuse my colours and I also wasn’t allowed to do that. Now, I get involved in the entire process. The part that has changed the most is the ‘difference in mindset’. When I was promoting as a group, I think I tried to find ‘peace of mind’ only through the approval of the company and the public. Now, whether it’s feeling joy while making something, or feeling proud when I’ve made it, I’m more frequently acknowledging that I’m proud of myself and I feel happy.” -Then, what was your happiest memory from working on this album? “The guide for “Hashtag” (R&B soul pop genre) was so hard. The topline is dynamic and busy. The director Ioah and I worried a lot before I went in to do the recording, but he said, ‘Do as you please.’ I shed the pressure and recorded the first line, and he said, ‘This is exactly it,’ so that’s when I got the hang of it and I had fun recording after that.” -You’ve shown faith in Millic while working on your previous album too, but it did feel jarring when you were said to be working with him for the first time. I didn’t think there was any point of contact. “CEO Millic was the biggest reason I thought I should be with Paix Per Mil. I think there are many things I like and can do, but I was in a state of uncertainty where I didn’t know how to express it all in a cohesive way. But as soon as CEO Millic saw me, he instilled confidence in me, saying, ‘You have character.’ I thought that there would be a good synergistic effect when his wide musical spectrum met with what I possessed. Thanks to him, I think my ear for listening has broadened, too. Sometimes I wonder if he listens to too much difficult music. Haha. Songs like Willow’s “Symptom Of Life”. It’s full of elements that aren’t used in K-pop. And he also listens to a lot of developing-world music. But he also likes music like Keyshia Cole’s “Love”. I think my fans might find his music unfamiliar, but I definitely believe there are elements that can appeal to the public.” -The fan response to your last album promotions was impressive. Is there any kind of fan reaction that you’re looking forward to with this album? “My last album was my first solo album, so I tried some bold things. I was actually very worried about what I wanted to show. But the fans said, ‘We really love that this was an Yves-like decision and an Yves-like output.’ I felt like they had faith in me, so I felt ‘I could do well’ even with my future steps, and I was thankful for that. This album spans the whole of both the beginning and the end of this year, and if I were to hear that in 2024, Yves’ debut and the wrap-up to that debut were successful, I think I’ll be able to begin 2025 happily.” -What is Yves’ standard of success? “As I said earlier, while I had found stability and happiness through external validation before, now I feel satisfied in being able to affirm on my own. I can’t say that I’ve completely given up on external measures yet, but rather than in numbers, I think the biggest happiness will be in having no regrets when I finish my activities and feeling that I did my best. If the fans who always trust and follow me even just tell me, ‘It was good,’ I feel confident that I can continue my activities in the future.” -It seems like the key point of this album is the “synesthetic image” that emphasises both vision and hearing. It can also probably be connected to the sense of space. What was the atmosphere that Yves and Paix Per Mil wanted to emphasise? “I thought the intro and outro had huge roles. The message that penetrates this album is the emotions that I faced in finding peace. When you first listen to the intro, you feel something confusing. The lyrics keep emphasising that I need space somehow, and you feel the confusion and anxiety. But the outro consists of almost two minutes of only trap at the end. When you listen to it with earphones, you feel the sense of space as you said. Listening to that sound makes me feel very much at ease, like I’m entering a different world. If you listen to the album in order, you will feel many different emotions, I think.” -Is there anything else you do to find peace in your daily life? “I do very static activities when I’m alone at home. I often meditate and use tea ceremony sets. Not long ago, I received a really big singing bowl as a gift from my uncle. So sometimes I also find peace in my mind by listening to the ringing of the singing bowl.” -You participated in songwriting when you were in LOONA, but you didn’t participate in writing and composing songs in this album. “Paix Per Mil first told me, ‘Musically, we want you to trust the company wholly and follow us first.’ And I also decided to put down my own writing for a while and focus more on how the company sees me. And this album feels like the conclusion of LOOP , so we discussed in the direction of having me participate in production from the next album onwards.” -I think it’s also a great courage to not write lyrics or compose songs. What is the part of your identity that you are most pondering about at this point? “I thought I’d be prouder and feel better if I filled my solo debut album with songs I made, but it also took courage to let go of that. I trusted the company completely with my music up until this album, but starting with the next album, I want to become a singer-songwriter who creates my own colour with the knowledge I learned from and the spectrum broadened at the company. After all, I can express myself better if I make the songs. I was also curious about what kind of feel the company saw in me, and they drew out a lot of my emotivity and girlish innocence, rather than my girl crush side. I was very fascinated about and thankful for that. Because they broadened my spectrum. It was a great opportunity for me to spread my music in such an expanded space.” -In your view, is being “from LOONA” is a positive image or a negative image for you? “I’m very grateful that they recognise me as that, and I think it’s positive. Many people forgot me because I went on hiatus for almost a year. But I’m so thankful that they’re reminded of me because of this group, LOONA. I also think that the members are making the group name shine in their respective places, so I’m thankful for being called ‘LOONA Yves’. LOONA also had a bigger overseas fanbase. And my solo fanbase now is bigger overseas, too. I’m planning to tour abroad, and I hope that through this and future activities, I’ll be able to increase my domestic fanbase and hold concerts in Korea as well.” -Female soloists are popular all over the world these days. There is also a trend where young women, who are the main consumers of popular culture, tend to prefer female singers to male singers. Do you think it’s a better time to promote as a female soloist these days? “From a certain perspective, you might say that someone is a competitor, but it’s a great help to me that my seniors produce great results and continue their activities consistently and energetically. I’m grateful that they continue to expand the scope of what female artistes are able to do and pioneer those paths ahead of me. And that also makes me dream of taking after them and helping lift the profile of female artistes by consistently producing music. I do think you could say that it’s a good time to promote as a female solo artiste. But if you have the music and the preparation, you can create your own timing. If there are many good female artistes, I can get mentioned alongside them and ride the flow together, but if there are few, I can expand my range, so I’m not too fussy about the timing.” -What do you think is your own colour? “To describe myself as a colour, it’s black. Black is used a lot to symbolise the darkness that people avoid. But I think I have the courage to throw myself into new and challenging situations. I feel like I’m constantly getting into situations that resemble black. Also, black doesn’t lose its presence no matter what colour it’s put on. I want to resemble that kind of thing, too.” -Don’t you struggle mentally or blame yourself when you’re unsuccessful at those challenging things you attempt? “I tend to blame myself often. But now my mind and attitude have changed a lot. Even if I fail, I think what I learn from that is greater. So now I think I can be cool and let it pass. In the past, when I failed, I couldn’t admit my failure.” -Was there a special reason for such a change? “We (LOONA) were separated from each other, against our will. And the one year of hiatus that I was forced to take really felt like a decade for me. I’m someone who has a hard time not being busy. Circumstances made me unable to do anything. I felt very chained up. Emotionally and situationally, I felt oppressed. After those experiences, I try to challenge myself more and be freer than before. To be honest, I get stressed out about situations that happen suddenly. That’s why the members used to call me a scared sunfish. I was with the members for 6-7 years, including my debut period, you know. The members were always worried, “You push yourself too much.” Even the members could see how hard I was being on myself. But some of them left me letters at my bedside, and some of them hand-wrote me letters... When I was working as part of the group, those were the ways I found consolation, through the members. Now, rather than relying on someone, I try to find a way to comfort myself and solve the problems.” -But the work of being a singer also requires you to endure stress, right? “It took me a really long time to get parental permission to become a singer. My mom was against it for almost 10 years. She asked me later, ‘Why do you want to do this when you know it’s a tough road?’ So I said, ‘I’m not doing it because I want to do it, but because I think I’m going to die if I don’t.’ I still feel the same as when I was 17, harbouring those thoughts. There’s no other reason. This work just makes me so happy and attracts my heart so much that I’m willing to endure all the hardships, so that’s why I keep doing it.” ( Source )

Yves constantly throws herself into new environments. From transitioning from an idol group into being a solo artist, to making the decision to partner with independent label Paix Per Mil instead of a traditional K-pop agency, Yves has always embraced the unknown. “I often think, ‘How can I learn more and hear from the fans that I have evolved?’ I think that’s what keeps me pushing myself into new situations, even if it’s scary and challenging.” And this mindset has become her reality. Following the release of LOOP on May 29, 2024, Yves presents a new side of herself with her latest EP, I Did . Much like its title, delivering the concise yet powerful message that “I Did It,” Yves continues to take risks and achieve. When I saw Yves as a group member, I thought, “Maybe she’ll stand on stage as a solo artist someday.” And that became a reality back in May. Everyone says it’s an “Yves-like” choice. Actually, I didn’t know that I would be a solo artist. Perhaps, fans had been watching my personality and the style I’ve pursued for 7 years and already considered the possibility. Looking back, when I was a group member, I made music and had the company listen to it, and I gave presentations in front of the CEO about comprehensive things like outfits, makeup, and dance. I’m sure many things still feel new for you. It’s not an exaggeration to say that everything does. When I was in a group, my voice, dance colour, character, image and so on were pre-decided. But now I’ve changed everything. I’ve done a lot of research to find new tones, and I learn every time I receive new songs. Your new EP I Did has been released, reflecting that newness. How do you feel? The biggest goal of my solo career was to get my fans to empathise with me. In the profession of being an artiste, there are times when you have to hide your feelings, you know. But rather, I wanted to bare everything honestly, and thought it would be nice to let fans listen to my songs befitting their various situations and feel comforted and empathised with. So in LOOP , I expressed a variety of emotions in various genres, and in I Did , I honestly expressed the feelings I felt in the process of finding peace. Peace is the element of my happiness that accounts for the biggest share. When I listen to it in order, from the intro to the outro, I feel at peace. Peace is the most important thing in life, and this album gives you that feeling. So, is that why the title of the album is I Did ? As in Yves did it. The only way I can talk about this is in comparison to LOOP . I think that LOOP , like its MV, is an open-ended album where I keep wandering and drifting while moving to another world. On the other hand, I felt really good when I finished recording I Did , and I can confidently say to my fans, “I feel like I’ve found happiness.” Maybe it could be I Did in that sense. While doing solo activities, what’s the thing that has changed the most? Whenever I thought, “Can I act like this?” or “If I do this, wouldn’t the fans hate it?”, there were many things I was careful about. But now, even if I’m skeptical about it, I just do it first. Then I feel like I’m breaking the mould bit by bit, thinking, “I worried too much. Actually, that wasn’t a big deal.” That’s something that has changed. To give an example from singing, like how there are parts of your face that you don’t like, I also have a voice tone that I dislike. When that tone gets recorded, I point it out and say, “I’ll redo this part.” But sometimes, as an exception, the directors like it and a voice I really don’t like ends up in the final product. That’s when I think, “I don’t always have the right answer.” ‘Voice you don’t like?’ The song “Gone Girl” is calm and clean at the beginning. So I had to relax and go for elegance while singing it. It’s already so hard (laughs). That’s why, to my ears, this beginning part just sounded too dainty. So I asked Ioah what he thought, and he told me not to worry about it because it came out so well. And at the end of the same song, there’s a pretty falsetto tone that suddenly comes out. I thought it was unbalanced, but apparently that’s the charm. I don’t like this voice, but when the company and the team say it’s good, I trust them and try it. What's different, outside of music? Like fashion, for example. It's very different. I really love clothes. My mother has run a vintage clothing store since I was young. I used to hang out there and try on different outfits and play model. I even tried to audition as a model, but I didn’t grow to be tall (laughs). That’s how much I love clothes. But when I was a group member, we had many members. So we generally wore uniforms, and that made my desire towards outfitting grow even more. You know what I mean, right? I relieved that through my personal outfits. I wore such diverse outfits that when I ran into my members on the street, they couldn’t recognise me and just passed me by. But when I’m solo, I can do that in my job, too. I can express my love for clothes in a way that matches the music. When I do my fittings, I coordinate my thoughts with the company, and when my opinion is accepted, I feel good. (We do use that expression “wearing the right clothes”, after all.) That’s exactly it. I feel like I’m wearing the right clothes. What kinds of outfits are you attracted to? It’s delightful when I pull off clothes that stand out in colour or are unusual in shape. Since elementary school, I built up a lot of experience trying things out, like wearing a handkerchief on my head, wrapping it around my neck, attaching it to a belt, trying out heels. Through that I gained interest in wearing a variety of styles, so instead of a brand outlet, I prefer going to a vintage shop and buying clothes that I find unique. So, I don't have a “basic” item. It’s hard to find plain clothes in my wardrobe. The celebrity Yves who likes clothes that stand out, the individual Ha Sooyoung who loves peace. Seems like it would be difficult to balance the two. It’s very difficult. It feels like the task of my lifetime. My mom is always telling me, “Your personality really isn’t one to be a celebrity.” I shy away in new environments. So that makes no sense. So whether it’s on Instagram, or in music, or on my blog, or wherever, I try to express myself honestly. I’m always asking my fans too, “Don’t I seem like a neighbourhood friend?” What kind of responses do you get? Just that. They say I’m like a neighbourhood friend. If I say “I need to be more mysterious,” they say, “But that’s your charm so don’t change”. When I go live on fan interaction apps, sometimes I just get under the sheets and sleep, telling them to wake me up in 10 minutes. Even last night I was chatting with fans until 3 AM and doing Infinite Challenge impressions. Then they’re posting chat messages like, “Unnie you’re so much like a real-life friend. You talk the same way.” Whenever that happens, I think, “It’s too late to try to be more mysterious. I’ll just have to admit to who I am.” If people like the way I am like this, there’s no need to change that. We all try to change or make up for shortcomings. What is a shortcoming for Yves? A sense of mystery (laugh)? I think it’s an embarrassment that I shouldn’t present. Even now, if someone goes to watch a video of me while I’m there, I desperately stop them. Regardless of which performance it was, I feel like I’m lacking in all of them so it’s hard for me to endure someone watching that. So I prepare harder, so that I don’t have regrets. But I still have shortcomings. Seems like it’s inseparable from me. Then on the other hand, any traits that you’re satisfied with? I trust that my fans will also love what I like. I wasn’t sure before, but after going through a series of events, and after the fans and I shared our feelings over time, I became very certain that my fans will feel my sincerity when I’m doing something happily. So now I chase the things that I like to do. It seems like a transformative process, moving from being someone who seeks stability and consistency to someone who constantly throws herself into new places. I try to view myself objectively. But I realised that if I simply kept going on according to my tendencies, I wouldn’t see any development at all. Thinking about how I could learn more and hear from the fans that I’ve evolved, I think that’s what makes me keep putting myself into new situations, even if they’re scary or difficult. The first spot is! 1. Plan.B Studio Doesn't look too special on the outside right? But when you look to the right, This.. Is not a real elevator. This is actually the photobooth.. The inside is a literal elevator too. Oh yes, on the right I have also invited Yves blog sunbaenim who will be helping me out with my first blog post. If you sneak over to visit her blog, you will feel another sensibility that's different than mine. This photobooth has its camera towards the top! (Careful of neck cramps) So unlike other photobooths, you end up looking real hip. Let us quickly move to the results. Now the biggest strong point about this Plan.B Studio is. Once you take the elevator photos and come back out, There is another!! Dryer-concept photobooth. This, this thing is really amazing The camera sits inside the dryer And those pieces of laundry inside!@!!! You can use those as props I recommend taking pics as you toss them. But it's hard as heck though Now, something to watch out for. If you squeeze your way inside the dryer That's no good;;; A guide to the tips and warnings from she who is beautiful and kind. The outcome♡ Ahh didn't they come out so cute? The lighting inside this dryer is so pretty. Also, many of you have trouble knowing what pose to strike in photos right? Go Won: Everyone that we meet is filled with different feelings and thoughts; "TTYL" is an album that contains the feelings of growing up by accepting how these people are different from yourself. Intro track "FANATICISM", title track "TTYL", twin sub-unit tracks "Cotton Candy" and "Confessions", "Hocus Pocus" with its light-hearted melody, and intense and captivating "Secret Diary", there's a total of 6 tracks included. It's an album with really good songs, so please listen to it a lot. -- Then, what kind of song is the title track "TTYL"? Go Won: "TTYL" is a pop dance song that leaves an impression with plug sound synthesizers, rhythmic up-tempo drums, and rich harmonies between Loossemble members. The addictive chorus and bouncy and lively melody has a bright and cheerful charm unique to us, and the lyrics express the cute and cold parts of the push-and-pull with the person you like. -- I thought the vocals were refreshing for the summer, easy to listen to in the autumn; vocals you could trust in. How was the recording process? Hyeju: It's a fun song with a fast beat, so we recorded being mindful of the rhythm. Just like you mentioned, I think it also fits with how the feeling of autumn is becoming stronger lately, so I hope you listen (to "TTYL") a lot. -- What is the key point of the choreography? Hyeju: Waving both hands in the "Talk to you later~" part of the chorus, or biting our fingers and twerking. I'd be happy if people in Japan were to do a dance challenge of these on SNS, etc. -- I thought the music video was like a short-form movie. Please tell us about the key points of the music video. Vivi: I also thought it was very interesting when watching the final music video! I think you can see the cold push-and-pull with someone you're interested in, as well as enjoy the members' unique charms in the music video. There's a scene on a rooftop in the music video, but it was really hot during filming. But I remember it being odd not feeling that when monitoring, and thinking it was good that it ended up beautifully shot lol. -- I think there are many Japanese fans wishing for Loossemble to quickly come to Japan for activities. Is there anything you want to do in Japan? Hyunjin: On top of wanting to hold a concert in Japan, I also want to travel around and film content. There are many good restaurants in Japan, so I think fans would be happy if Loossemble were to film something in those restaurants. Vivi: It would be fun if we could also tour in Japan, and personally, I just want to go around the cities and travel lol. Go Won: I want to try holding a concert and fansigning in Japan! Personally, I like Japanese food, so I want to go on a gourmet tour. Hyeju: I want to hold a concert as Loossemble. Personally, I want to try going to Ghibli Studio lol. -- Please share your TMI.
