  • [Interview] KoreaIN Interview with Heejin (231116)

[INTERVIEW] HeeJin (ARTMS) talks about living in Brazil and inspiration from Korean culture for her solo debut by Giovanna Pego For HeeJin, her new mini album is both a beginning and a continuation: K is her first solo release since 2016, when she started promoting as a member of the K-pop group LOONA. In addition, this year, the idol began a new phase of her career by joining the ARTMS project, which also includes her LOONA members Haseul, Jinsoul, Kim Lip and Choerry. It may be a time of change for HeeJin, but it's also one of strength and confidence. She led the production process, which gave her the title of co-producer of the album, and decided to show the world the best that a Korean artist can do. After all, she chose the "K" in the title to symbolise Korea's beauty and cultural potential. In an exclusive interview with KoreaIN, HeeJin spoke more about the launch and her strong connection with Brazil, having lived in São Paulo for a while as a child. Check it out! KoreaIN: You were directly involved in the production of K: you chose songs, wrote lyrics and defined a concept for the album. How was the experience of leading everything this time? If you could describe this process in one word or expression, what would it be and why? HeeJin: I'd like to compare it to a hike. Although the hike can be tiring, the feeling of accomplishment when you reach the top is akin to the process of producing the album. KoreaIN: You were the first LOONA member to be introduced to the public in 2016. What's it like releasing a solo album after promoting as part of a group? How do you feel you've evolved as an artist since then? HeeJin: First of all, I think I've become stronger in order to be more independent. I also shared my honest opinions with my boss throughout the album production process! KoreaIN: The MV for the title track "Algorithm" and your album contain many references to Korean culture, which is becoming increasingly popular in Brazil and around the world. What kind of message would you like to convey with K? What do you want to show the world this time? HeeJin: I hope foreign fans can feel the beauty and charm of Korea when they listen to my album. I hope that if they have the chance to come to Korea, they can experience them in person! KoreaIN: You lived in São Paulo when you were younger and even mentioned that you loved açaí ice cream! What was it like living in Brazil? Can you share a memorable memory from that time? HeeJin: Yes! I remember being very surprised when I tried açaí ice cream for the first time, because it wasn't so famous in Korea at that time. I also remember eating chicken hearts and cheese bread. It rains a lot in Korea, but I remember being surprised by the heavy rains in Brazil. KoreaIN: Finally, could you leave a message for your Brazilian fans? We hope to see you here soon! HeeJin: Thank you for supporting and loving me from so far away! I hope to come back to Brazil one day and meet you in person to have a great time together! Love you, Brazil~ (Source)

  • [Interview] K! World Interview with Odd Eye Circle (230725)

INTERVIEW: ODD EYE CIRCLE presents their new mini-album! By Tiphaine After many years, and a change of agency, ODD EYE CIRCLE is finally back with a new album! K! World was able to chat with the 3 members of the group who shared details about the creation of Version Up. Hello! Our readers know you as members of LOONA, but could you introduce ODD EYE CIRCLE? JinSoul: “ODD EYE” means that we’re unique, so “ODD EYE CIRCLE” means “a group of girls with unique talents”. We express our individuality through different musical genres. It’s now been seven years since you debuted as ODD EYE CIRCLE. What can we expect from this comeback? Kim Lip: You’ll find that we’ve evolved a lot. For example, we have a more mature vibe physically! (Laughs.) How was it to work with the members of ODD EYE CIRCLE again after so long? Choerry: At the time, we were simultaneously uncertain and excited. Now, I’m just happy to work with ODD EYE CIRCLE. I’ve always loved being with the girls. You recently signed with Modhaus. What does this change mean for you? JinSoul: We’ve had the chance to try different musical genres, more diverse ones, all whilst maintaining the originality of ODD EYE CIRCLE. This is largely thanks to us having refound [the group’s] creator, Jaden Jeong. Signing with Modhaus is a big opportunity for us. What was your process for writing and recording for this new mini-album, Version Up? Kim Lip: ODD EYE CIRCLE hadn’t been in the studio for a long time. We’ve truly given everything that we can to this work, above all to not disappoint the fans. As well as that, I helped with the lyrics for the title track. Right, what is the story of Air Force One? Choerry: As you know, Converse® was the symbol of ODD EYE CIRCLE. So we wanted to represent our recent evolution with a new symbol. You’re happy when you buy a new pair of shoes, right? Our intention is to express that sentiment through the song! Other than Air Force One, which song from Version Up are you looking forward to the fans listening to? JinSoul: We’re really excited for them to listen to Lucid. It’s a piece dedicated to them, since they’ve been waiting for us for a while. You’ll be having a concert in Paris soon, during your European Tour. Do you have any stories to tell us about your last trip to France? Kim Lip: We’re really looking forward to meeting our French fans again! Let’s enjoy the concert! I seem to remember JinSoul tried snails when we were last here. She said she’d eat them again. Let’s do it again this time! What can we look forward to with the ARTMS project? Choerry: You’ll be able to learn more about us and discover our charms with this project. We’ll be very active in different ways, individually and as a group. How is ODD EYE CIRCLE connected to ARTMS, and ARTMS to LOONA? Kim Lip: LOONA hasn’t disbanded. We’re always LOONA. But as you know, we can’t use that name because we left our former agency. We needed a name for ourselves, and “ex-LOONA” didn’t sound right, you know? So, we opened a new chapter with ARTMS. Hoping that you will believe in us, and that you will always support us! A final message for your French fans? JinSoul: Friends, it’s been a long time! We know you’re going to love this show as much as the last, right? We’re really looking forward to it. We’re looking forward to meeting again in France! (Source)

INTERVIEW: HeeJin talks about her new album! By K! World This year is synonymous with renewal for Heejin. After debuting in the group ARTMS, the former LOONA member has released a new mini-album, which she co-produced. She tells us more in this exclusive interview! Hello! Could you introduce yourself to our readers? Hello K! World readers, I’m Heejin from ARTMS! Just so you know, I’m answering these questions while having my makeup done! (Laughs) How are you approaching this new step in your career? I drew on all the strength that’s in me! It was time for me to try new things, and to learn to produce my own album. It’s a challenge that allows me to develop my independence. I’m more excited than nervous! How would you describe your music as a solo artist, and what are your inspirations? I’m inspired by all the things around me! From the anime that I watch, to late-night snacks. My inspiration, put simply, is my daily life. What does “K” represent, which is the title of your mini-album? I chose “K” because K-Pop is now known all around the world. This mini-album reflects my desire to show the genre in its best way/light! You co-produced this mini-album. Could you talk to us about the creation process? It was very tiring, but the feeling of accomplishment once the work was done was incredible and doubly satisfying. Now I understand why some people dedicate their lives to producing their albums. A final message for your French and European fans? France is one of my favourite countries, and for so many reasons! I’m impatiently waiting for the day when ARTMS can return to Europe. I love you! • [lastyvesniin] Blog-ssi Enjoys Hot Lattes in Fall~ (...) (231110)

[Link to original post] From, Blog-ssi Blog-ssi enjoys hot lattes in fall~ Please introduce your favorite latte places~ To. Blog-ssi Well, I don't drink lattes Or rather, I can't A little while ago, I got bold and drank a milk tea And I almost died.,,, Cause: stomachache) Anyway I cannot start the day without coffee so 'Ah-ah' [iced Americano] Ahh... [Can I... Cry while I speak?] Ah-ah... That name, somehow so nostalgic I drink ah-ah often (to survive) But there are certain ^conditions^ here too.. Must have no acidity..? One commonality I discovered while trying many ah-ahs is That oddly sour and bitter taste. I hate that taste The characteristic of this blog's owner is that she makes everything sound fancier, sorry) This is a little uncouth, but anyway there needs to be low acidity Must be nutty..? The way this word sounds kind of hurts my heart [T/N: "nutty" and "sue" are the same word] But I like nutty things If it has the nutty profile from nuts and the sweetness of chocolate It can pass perfectly as a coffee I like Must have no side effects after drinking..? Honestly this is my fault because caffeine doesn't suit me, But I will brazenly assign blame to the coffee Things with strong acidity and lots of caffeine Somehow give me a headache and make me dizzy and nauseous But if I drink nutty and light coffee like a barley tea I can have a more vibrant, symptom-less day. But I might have developed a tolerance for this too because two cups No longer wake me up. What should I do. As I'm writing, I'm realizing why I drink ah-ah Because I never sleep on time and go to bed late Like always, tomorrow, I mean today I shall begin the day with ah-ah It won't be the easiest day but Ah-ah... Hwaiting, everyone you all ja-ah [sleep tight] Addendum* Coffee brands ranked, among ones I've tried Highly subjective) 1 Ediya, I love you 2 Everything else Comments section: Ding: Curious: does decaf also not suit you Yves: That's right... Pingping: Forcing yourself to stay up when it's time for bed is ultimately bad for you. You should sleep when you're sleepy... You'll get sick if you burn out your body, don't do that... Yves: It's not by force ㅠ Kim Harong: Unnie do you like iced tea with espresso shot? Yves: Graduated from that vvxzdxrn: Do you have a recommended brand for iced tea with espresso shot...?!! I'm not friendly with ah-ah yet... So I get through the day with unnie's existence and iced tea with espresso...🥹🥹 Yves: For that .. Paikdabang

  • [Interview] Xportsnews "Idol-tist" Interview with Heejin (231104)

Original article links: https://entertain.naver.com/read?oid=311&aid=0001657743 https://entertain.naver.com/read?oid=311&aid=0001657744 https://entertain.naver.com/read?oid=311&aid=0001657745 Among countless idols, there exist artists who create art or express themselves. Moreover, artists who succeed in their solo careers expand on their own art. Xsportsnews focuses on highlighting a member as an “individual” artist with the “Idoltist'' interview series. The fourteenth guest on Idoltist is Heejin who is back with her first solo album. Heejin, who released a single as the first member of the LOONA debut project in 2016 at the age of 16, has made a “comeback” with her first mini album. It has been seven years since the release of her single “ViViD”. In the middle of last month, we met Heejin who was having a “hectic day” preparing for the release of her first mini-album “K”, and between a solo “debut” and “comeback”, she decided that it would be called a “comeback”. Even while the recording had to be wrapped up, Heejin said she was headed to the “end of the end”, revealing that she was “making revisions to improve the quality of the album”, indicating that she was making every effort she could until the very end. She said, “I didn’t like how I recorded the title song, so I made the request first, and I was even recording revisions until two days ago.” She added that after this, she “felt much more calm about it”. She is filled with experience, given how long she has been active. When debuting, if you could call what she had the “determination of a newcomer” - doing whatever she was asked, now she records until she herself is content. Heejin said that “I put forth many of my own opinions and participated a lot in the album creation too”. She took part in writing the lyrics for four of the six songs in the album as well. Then in the recording, unlike before, she revealed that she had a good time experiencing new things: “I directed as well, changing lyrics on the spot.” A comeback after seven years, one could feel as much, if not more, pressure than debuting. In addition, going from doing activities as a twelve-member group, to standing solo. To this, Heejin said “You can’t ignore the synergy among the members. Being used to the stage being packed even with us just gathered up, my biggest feeling was that I had to fill up the stage even by myself,” revealing how she had no choice but to be even more strict with herself. With the revealing of members with solo and unit activities, it took two whole years for LOONA to gather as a whole. For Heejin, the starter of this, she may be a member whose identity is that of LOONA’s. Despite it being a first step while still being deeply covered by the group’s colors, she did not feel “worried”. She said that “many people remember me more as LOONA’s Heejin than just Heejin”, saying, “Ultimately I’m LOONA too”. To that, she added, “I think of it as part of a whole, so rather than thinking ‘I better start anew’, I think it would be great if you remembered me as LOONA’s Heejin too.” Along with the release of her debut song "ViViD," which was also the start for the group's first revealed member, the singer Heejin, the start of her new solo also took place in October. Heejin's birthday is also in October. This October was also a very eventful month for Heejin, with 2023 marking the 7th anniversary of her debut. For idols, the “7th anniversary” is usually when contracts end, and a time of many concerns. Heejin also mentioned this, arriving at a clear conclusion. "As my 7th anniversary came, what I thought was that I was still too sprightly." “I still have a lot to show, and there are many things I want to do, so I gained confidence”, said Heejin. “I want to show the spry mindset of starting new, that I’m inexhaustible.” She hoped that October this year would be a month in which Heejin would be shown. Regarding October: “I hope it ends up being the most rewarding month this year. It’s busy but I think it’ll be a month that I was happy. I hope it ends up being like that.” She then became sure: “and it will”. Heejin, still displaying confidence and energy, celebrating her 7th anniversary despite being 23 years old, as she put it, is still in her sprightly years. She has started life in this scene early, she said that, regardless, “I think there are great advantages”. "People around me ask, ‘How do you handle not even having friends from high school?’ Or 'You never even got to go on a school trip, right?' But I don't think these are things that you have to experience. Many people have lived like that, so that’s natural, and so many people find it unfortunate (for others who don’t have those experiences), but I’ve done what I wanted to do, and in fact, I was happy doing that”, giving a glimpse into her passion that has not been extinguished after all this time. Heejin who has thought "I'm glad I became an idol” while looking back on her past as time passes, has released her first mini-album "K" on the 31st of last month, continuing her career as an "idol”. She has officially started her solo career about seven years after debuting as LOONA in 2016. As such, with great affection, Heejin deeply got involved while working on this album. Jaden Jeong, CEO of her current agency Modhaus who was involved since the early planning stages of LOONA, told Heejin, "when the time for her solo comes, I want to have her do this concept no matter what," and ‘K’ is the result. The album title means "Korea". As the Kpop market has widened, Korean elements have been incorporated into the contents of the album, and one can meet a Heejin exhibiting Korean beauty wearing a hanbok in the teaser and MV. The album was also noted to be an extension of “ViViD”, her debut solo single. Heejin said, “I’ve likely developed a lot”, adding, “because I know what I was lacking then, I am confident. Compared to back then, I’m less worried. If I felt difficulties from 1~10 back then, this time I think I’ll be able to go through things in a relaxed state,” certain in having made up for her past shortcomings. She has grown enough to now proactively give her opinions. "I think I tried to show you ‘Heejin’" she said, wanting to show her “bright image”. So, she left some traces throughout the album. She participated in the album design, wrote the text for the album’s content, and picked out images herself. She took part in outfit selection too, but contrary to wearing trendy cropped tees and jogger pants per the CEO’s opinion, she offered photos of styles with oversized tops. Explaining all of this, Heejin expressed that “the album itself is Heejin herself”. Heejin’s thoughts were incorporated from recording to performance, even song creation. According to her, “(the title track is) an easy-listening song, so I focused on the idea that it ‘couldn’t feel boring’, and made sure the rhythmical parts stood out”, revealing her focus during recording. For the performance to go with the song, she said, “taking care of the performance too, I focused on parts where I could show visuals,” showing her confidence saying “I’ll take both parts”. Excluding the intro she participated in four songs as lyric writer. For the song she did not participate in she said that “the lyrics came out too fast”. As lyric writer, she revealed behind-the-scenes stories for each song. The title of “Algorithm” was decided before lyric-writing began. Heejin described the theme of the song, “with the developed Internet and everything being connected via algorithms, content about you that appears even when I want to forget you”, saying that “the CEO wanted me to write about ‘algorithm’. It was such a modern term so I concerned myself over how I would write that out, so I think it took a long time (to write).” “When I first got the song ‘Video Game’, the animation ‘Wreck It Ralph’ came to mind”. So Heejin, who said “I worked quickly”, said “I got this song sometime in July. This thought came late at dawn one night so I wrote it quickly in just one day. I think if you read the lyrics you’ll see why ‘Wreck It Ralph’ came to mind”. For “Addiction”, which was almost a title track for a younger group in the agency, Heejin revealed “I apologize (to TripleS) as I received this song after asking to hear it”. The lyrics came to mind as unexpectedly as she was eating late-night food. Heejin said, “I think I’ve developed a habit of eating late-night food at 3AM or so. I wrote the lyrics while thinking “am I addicted to late-night food?” (At the time) I was drinking zero-calorie cola, and I connected that to love writing the lyrics to the song”, raising interest in the song. She worked on “Nokia” with TripleS Park Sohyun and CEO Jeong. Thanks to this, she learned that “Nokia” was “a widely used phone all around the world”, and the lyrics, “like a phone that’s discontinued and is no longer around, you’re not by my side” hold the meaning behind the breakup song. She is highly satisfied that she directly worked on the album. Last year, in the introduction to her solo song “Honestly”, there was an honest line about “while doing group activities, there were lots of times where my voice had to fit the song’s direction”. This time the song was matched to Heejin’s voice. Another reason for her great satisfaction was that “it’s three minutes with just my voice”. For the same reason, it was more difficult. Heejin said, “Before, I would only focus on my part, but now I need to focus on everything over three minutes while recording. This was also part of why working on this took longer”, noting that she recorded revisions for the title track six times. Over many interviews, she has mentioned her low-pitched voice as one of her charms. Regarding this, she said “When I was young, I used to have a complex about it, but after time, it seemed more like an attractive feature. It isn’t common, so there is a part of that which is a bigger plus for me”, adding, “I’m not low-pitched when I sing, but in lower-register songs, I can comfortably handle the lower notes”. Other than her low-pitched voice, a charm of “solo Heejin” that she confidently stated was “a face you won’t forget after seeing once”. She added that it’s “an image that leaves an impression at once”. Even after debuting as LOONA, Heejin was thrown into survival shows where she continued to prove her skills such as Mixnine or Queendom 2. Thinking about her time at Mixnine, she said “back then (even looking at myself), I thought, ‘did not seem to have any thoughts about enjoying the stage.’ I only thought that I had to win.” Despite pushing herself, the driving force that protected her was the “stage”. While saying that “it’s always the case that the preparation process is too complicated and tiring”, she added “after the performance, that becomes lots of energy. Even in tight schedules, when standing onstage, even if it is draining, things become clear mentally”. Heejin, who says that in that moment, she reaches ‘peak’ condition, saying “activities play a role similar to oil. It feels like relieving stress from work by working.” Maybe because she’s so serious about work, Heejin earned the descriptive “hexagonal idol” through her well-rounded skillfulness. That’s how committed Heejin was in places unseen. She reminisced about the past, saying “I don’t know why I used to go that far, but I spent every day at the company office or at the dorm. Never went anywhere on the weekends, and always stayed in the practice room until 3 AM. The dorm and practice room were close by, so I remember going in to practice whenever I couldn’t sleep.” Continuing, she said “During album preparations, too, it was just so natural for all the members to stay until sunrise. I think that’s how we lived. No one made me do that, but I just lived like that on my own. At the time, I did feel some doubt like, what’s going to change when I practice?” There may not have been immediately visible change, but those times accumulated to craft Heejin’s hexagon. Looking back upon such hard-fought times, the first thought that grazes Heejin is pride. “The albums accumulated one by one, and I definitely feel the gradual improvement. Those were such precious times for me. With each passing day, I’m glad I chose to be an idol.” “(Being an idol) was a big dream of mine, and I think the job satisfaction is high in every way. Because it keeps me joyful mentally. If you don’t want to do something and someone makes you, you really don’t want to do it. But this is what I want to do, so I endure even when it’s difficult, and I feel that it comes back with big rewards, so it’s satisfying. I hope the fans would know this too. That I’m not just making this up.” Recently, idols have grown deeper in their fan interactions through various content and messenger apps, and they are exposed to the public for longer. It would be important to separate work from the self. Indeed, Heejin said “I always do think that Heejin at work and Jeon Heejin in everyday life need to be different. I think I’m really positive when I’m working. That’s not to say my everyday life is negative, but it’s simpler. I think what’s important is to not show too much of myself normally. Office workers look different when they’re in the office (compared to other times), right. I think I try to show better things about myself (when I work).” Though she’s at her seventh anniversary, the path ahead is longer than what’s in the past. Asked how she would like to polish that path, Heejin said “I think this solo album is going to help set (the direction)”, but added, “I filmed a Shorts drama recently. I’m still lacking, but I want to show lots of different things as an idol, while also taking on the challenge of acting.” As solo singer Heejin, the goal is a music show win. She said, “Even as LOONA, we’ve won M! Countdown, but never won on a a non-cable station. I think the fans would be really happy too if I were to win on a non-cable show with the solo album. I’d also love for (my song) to be background music on trendy Shorts or Reels. I’d like to hear it often on those.” Then she emphasized, “It would be great if I also won the music show at the same time,” drawing laughter. As Jeon Heejin the person, she would “like to remain this way, as an entertainer”. Saying “I may resist many things and shed many things, but even decades down the road, I would like to be a Heejin who remains in the entertainment industry,” she expressed a wish to continue working in many areas. “I really really really put a lot of work into preparing this album, so I’d love it if you enjoyed it too. Please promote it too, and I hope you’ll love it. And with this album as the beginning, I’d like to meet you in many places going forward.” When you think of Heejin, you can’t leave out the LOONA promotions which were her beginning. After experiencing the dispute over their exclusive contracts, the members had to scatter to their respective places. Among them, starting with Odd Eye Circle (Kim Lip, Jinsoul, Choerry) who are in Modhaus like Heejin, Loossemble (Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, Hyeju) and soloist Chuu all debuted. Looking at the members who debuted earlier, Heejin said she felt “half-nervous, half-excited”. When she went to the Loossemble showcase to cheer them on, she got to watch the members she once worked together with from somewhere other than the stage. Odd Eye Circle had done unit activities before, but because Loossemble was a new combination, Heejin confessed that “I felt complicated and strange. I felt sad but also wanted to cheer them on.” As she’s embarking on solo activities apart from the members, she says she feels the biggest difference in practice. She said, “We were a big group of 12 people, and we were so close with each other, too. We’d all order a huge amount of food and take breaks to eat, and during break times, we’d chat away loudly. (This time) it’s just me and the dancers. By now, I’m relaxed (around the dancers), but at first, the awkward air made me realize the mood was very different.” She also said that LOONA felt less anxiety about the future after they won second place on Queendom 2, the survival program. But anxiety found them again through the dispute. Heejin was frank about how she felt then: “Even in those unstable circumstances, we talked a lot with each other. That we wanted to keep our team together. It’s really regrettable, isn’t it. It’s not the members’ fault, and there was no animosity, either. There were just things that we could not control, and that made us all feel disappointed, that we couldn’t let it end like that.” Modhaus, which she selected after long deliberation, is led by CEO Jeong Byeong-gi, who was in charge of producing the LOONA project. Heejin fielded contact from many companies, and she expressed that she “wanted to keep the team together” in meetings. Heejin, who calmly confesses that “Other members would have received lots of contact like this too,” was able to muster up courage and prepare for her new beginning thanks to this current agency where she got to stay with the members. At Modhaus, Heejin is joined by Jinsoul, Kim Lip, Choerry, and Haseul as ARTMS. She’s releasing a solo album, but the members dependably have her back in various content. Because of that, she shared much conversation with ARTMS and the LOONA members during her solo preparations. She said, “So many members reached out to me. It was too frantic on my own, so I wasn’t really good about sharing the things that I could have shared beforehand with the members. While preparing frantically, (Kim) Lip unnie sent me a long message that ‘It was busy and frantic and hard even preparing as a group, so it must be really hard on your own’. I cried the moment I read the first line. I guess I must have been really exhausted then,” smiling. After reading another interview which mentioned this, Hyunjin reached out to her next. Heejin said, “(Hyunjin) reached out with a long text saying, ‘No matter what, you can do this well even by yourself.’ She’s a same-aged friend, and we’re really close with each other, so both of us find that kind of thing to be cringe, but I was grateful she still reached out first.” However, Heejin drew laughs when she said she didn’t reply to Hyunjin in kind with a long text, saying “I do remember texting things like, Isn’t the tour tiring. I’ve been watching. Thanks.” Revealing that her MBTI is a T-type, she added, “I wasn’t so detail-oriented as to do that (reply with a long text), but I should reach out one more time.” Along with the members and their tight-knit friendship, she won second place on Queendom 2 and went on a world tour, but environments and circumstances changed greatly in a short time. Heejin spent the time of change “frantically”. She told us frankly: “I needed to figure some things out myself, and basically had no rest. Back then I felt no stability. As an idol, the fact that I wasn’t part of any place took a big toll on my sense of stability. To be honest, I remember it was difficult. So I think that’s why I’m even happier and feeling more stable now.” It didn’t happen from her own will, and she never got to tie it off. From being revealed as the first member to the turbulent days, the time spent as LOONA left “an immense sense of belonging” on Heejin. She said, “When I debuted as the first batter, everything was scary. I joined expecting a group, and then they told me to debut by myself, and as I gained members one by one, I felt a great deal of belonging.” “I feel like I’ve made forever friends. I know this is cliche, but I can’t compare them to anyone else, even closer than family. I can call them up whenever to meet up if the times align, I can confess how I’m feeling inside, and we can relate and comfort each other. It was not wasted time, not at all. Even back then I was always so happy, and every moment on stage was precious. I am the way I am right now only because I went through that time as LOONA. I don’t think this thing is over yet. Whenever it may be, if there is something that we can do, we’re gonna do it.” When asked what LOONA means to her, Heejin thought for a very long time before replying, “My everything.” Heejin chose her words carefully, lest fans become sad if she used past tense in her response; she showed her affection, saying, “That’s what I keep thinking about. Everything. My everything. And when I think about it, I get really sad. And happy at the same time. I hope people will remember. It’s the thing that I want them to continue remembering.” As much as Heejin showed her depth of feeling for the team, the ARTMS members by her side frequently cheered on Heejin during her solo preparations. Adding on, the members also expressed these words of affectionate encouragement to Heejin, setting out solo again. “I think Heejin really has a diversity of charms. I hope many people will learn about Heejin’s charms and come to love her through this album!” (Haseul) “This is Heejin’s first solo song in a really long time, and I think her maturity compared to her debut is what stands out. I’m looking forward to Heejin’s relaxed and energetic performances, and this is her first solo promotion, but I will always be cheering her on from behind! So I’m hoping for a great promotion!” (Jinsoul) “This album’s coming out after a really long time, so Heejin took a lot of care and put in lots of hard work. I hope lots of people will pay attention to the grown-up Heejin’s pretty showings, and I hope that Heejin and the fans will get to laugh a lot and have happy moments through this album.” (Kim Lip) “Our first LOONA member and multi-talented Heejin unnie. Thanks so much for always showing off awesome and pretty sides of yourself, and you’ve been so cool all this time, and I hope whether it’s the stage or wherever, you’ll keep flying around even more than before. As a fellow member, I’m going to cheer for this promotion more than anyone else, so fighting for the solo promos! Thanks and I love you so much. Everyone, our Heejin unnie’s music is really good so I hope you’ll listen to it lots and adore her!” (Choerry)

  • [Interview] EDaily "Doldam" Interview with Hyunjin (231107)

Hyunjin (real name Kim Hyunjin) has reawakened her dulled senses and taken flight. She has released the first album under Loossemble, the group formed together with LOONA peers Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, and Hyeju, and taken powerful strokes for a new beginning. Hyunjin entered the K-pop industry in earnest in November 2016, when she was revealed as the second member of LOONA. After the subunit LOONA ⅓, she began full group activities as LOONA in 2018, spanning stages domestic and international. This year, she was forced to take an unwanted hiatus while undergoing an exclusive contract dispute with her old agency. Finally, after committing to legal conflict instead of activities for about half a year, Hyunjin made a new home at CTD E&M in June. The first album as a Loossemble member was released in September. Immediately after release, she announced re-debut with grandeur while touring 10 cities in the United States, and also successfully completed domestic promotions after the tour. Meeting with EDaily for a Doldam interview at the KG Tower in Jung-gu in Seoul, Hyunjin said “I feel satisfied that I think we made a good impression of Loossemble’s image, completing the U.S. tour with our very first promotion.” She continued, “We also expected around 40,000 copies for the first week sales and were surprised to see over 70,000. It made me realize a lot of people waited for us to restart activities and it felt encouraging.” Many members are said to have cried emotional tears during the U.S. tour. Hyunjin said, “I can still hear the fans’ cheers over the IEMs. While going through the tour, I thought it was such a good decision to not give up and return to the stage.” Looking back, she said: “Whenever I went on morning walks during the tour, people recognized me, and that made the international popularity feel more real. When someone said ‘Thanks for reconsidering’, it made me really emotional, too.” As these results were obtained through hardship, the sense of achievement was even greater. Hyunjin said, “We only had about a month and a half for album preparations. There was a lot to prepare in a short period. We were keen to increase the quality since this was our first album, so we worked on preparation and practice while sleeping only 2~3 hours per day.” Hyunjin is also carrying out Loossemble’s leader role. On this, she smiled, saying “It’s an unfamiliar job, but I’m pretty involved to begin with, and I’ve been good about finding compromise between the company and the members’ opinions, so fortunately I think it suits me well.” In the first album, Loossemble included the Korean and English versions of title track “Sensitive”, as well as “Real World”, “Colouring”, “Newtopia”, “Strawberry Soda”, and “Day by Day”. Hyunjin said, “To show more growth compared to before, every member including me participated in lyric-writing, and we selected the choreography demos ourselves, too.” In the album, they also incorporated a story of the members becoming crewmembers on a spaceship and setting out on a journey to find their friends. Saying “While preparing the album, we thought about the reasons why LOONA was beloved by fans,” Hyunjin explained that “Our conclusion was that a lot of people liked the team’s story of growth and the lore which had people curious about the future.” She added that “We wanted to incorporate a story that carries some of LOONA’s colors but can focus more on each individual member than before.” Title track “Sensitive”, which stands out for a catchy and funky sound, is about the initiative-taking message of trusting in the senses that have brought you this far, and moving on even more boldly. It fits well with the Loossemble members, who are setting out on a new beginning. When told that the song is good, Hyunjin smiled and said “I picked it,” emphasizing that the members’ opinions were reflected in the song selection process as well. Meanwhile, at the domestic showcase for the album’s release, the other LOONA members now at other homes attended and filled the stands alongside fans. Hyunjin was grateful: “When we sang ‘Day by Day’, the song I wrote lyrics for, as the encore, the members cheered for us holding up placards with slogans on them.” As Hyunjin said “That looked funny, but on the other hand I also thought, ‘Why are the members who should be right next to me sitting over there,’ and that made me sad too,” her eyes welled up momentarily as if overcome. Hyunjin said of her hopes: “I think we are just on a temporary rest right now, and I don’t think LOONA activities are completely over. All the members have trust in each other, so I’m hoping that one day we will become one again.” After gathering herself, Hyunjin laughed and said “That story we incorporated into the first Loossemble album, where we become spaceship crew and set out for friends, you never know if that will lead into a big picture where we end up meeting the LOONA members.” She also made sure to remind readers about the upcoming Loossemble fan meeting on the 25th of this month. Source 1 – “Sometimes I’m tired and exhausted, but I still like this job,” said Hyunjin, adding that “I think the most important thing for an idol is a firm mindset and constant effort.” Hyunjin said, “I think the most important thing is how you approach your activities. I’ve been realizing that if you want more attention and love than others in the entertainment industry, you need to be working and thinking harder, and you need to have that desire.” Then, looking back on the LOONA activities, she said “With 12 members, each individual could only receive short lines. Sometimes I only had two seconds, and through those experiences, I came to understand that you need to have the initiative to do more when you have the chance.” Further, she emphasized that “Even when I’m on a break from activities, I’m continuing to practice even little by little so I won’t get complacent, working to fill out where I’m lacking.” She then smiled proudly, saying “Fortunately, I think I’ve been good about maintaining the mindset that I established when I was dreaming of becoming an idol. I never lost the beginner’s mindset.” Hyunjin first stepped foot into the industry in middle school, after appearing on the tvN variety show 3 Idiots’ “Beauty Since Birth Awards” special episode. Hyunjin said, “Before that, I’d never even attended an applied music academy. I appeared on the “Beauty Since Birth Awards” as the teenager representative and won fifth place, then I got cast by the agency, and started trainee life.” To achieve her idol dreams, Hyunjin left her family home in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, and lived with her oldest brother in Mok-dong, in the Yangcheon district of Seoul. Hyunjin reminisced: “I had a tough routine, taking the subway between the practice room in Apgujeong, Gangnam and my brother’s apartment. That’s the time when a fourteen-year-old girl became tougher and determined.” That oldest brother that she lived with was also a band member. Hyunjin said, “My oldest brother went to college for music, so that helped when I was auditioning. These days, my brother is unable to focus fully on music, and one of my wishes is to become more successful so I can help his music career too.” Hyunjin also spoke of a goal to become active as a solo singer and actress in the future. When asked about a direction of solo artistry she’s interested in, Hyunjin replied “I want to be a performance-type singer.” She then added, smiling, “I used to like dancing even as a kid, but I was bad at it. I’ve only gotten good at dancing through lots of practice, so I have to hold on to dance.” Hyunjin added, “Watching Chuu unnie’s performance, after her solo release recently, made me desire being a soloist even more. If I get the chance, I want to do solo promotions with a song that takes me a step closer to the public.” She’s also been getting acting lessons consistently, even before Loossemble’s first album and tour. “I’m adventurous and like to have different experiences, so I want to be aggressive about acting too.” She smiled, saying “I started acting lessons for the first time after joining this current agency, but I’ve always enjoyed copying scenes from movies and dramas.” She also mentioned characters she’d like to act. Hyunjin said, “I’m a cold-looking but innocent image, so I think Suzy sunbaenim’s role in the movie Architecture 101 might fit well. I’d like to act out a role like that and earn a title like ‘the nation’s first love’,” showing off an ambition. She picked honesty as her unique charm. Hyunjin emphasized: “I’m an idol who’s exactly the same on the outside and inside. I’m really honest and don’t embellish. My personality is also simple and frank.” She added, “I’m never afraid to show my face without makeup to the fans, either. When you like someone, you want to show everything, right. That’s how special the fans are to me.” While discussing her honest charms, Hyunjin once again showed pride about the fact that she was “born a beauty”. She said, “Sometimes I get DMs on social media like, ‘You’re so pretty the way you are, so please never get plastic surgery,’ and I feel good whenever I see something like that.” Vowing, she said “I’ll never touch up my face, and I’m going to show my natural side to the fans.” “I’m sure a lot of people don’t know me well yet. Since I’ve started out on a new beginning, I want to introduce myself to more people, and I want to become a better person befitting that. I’ll work hard to become a more influential idol who makes fans happy.” Source 2

  • [Interview] No Cut News interview with Heejin (231102)

[Original article] [En:terview] ‘Solo’ Heejin: “CEO Jeong Byeong-gi said I changed the most” Reporter Kim Su-jeong, CBS No Cut News Even prior to debut, the LOONA project became much-discussed in the industry with its immense scale. And Heejin was the very first member to be revealed from it. When she released the bouncy “ViViD”, Heejin was only sixteen years old. Heejin was beloved in a group, went through an unwanted contract dispute and found a new agency, and now has become a member of a group called ARTMS. Seven years after her debut, she’s embarked on perhaps her “biggest” challenge yet. Namely, a solo debut. Ever since her LOONA days, Heejin was called a “hexagonal idol” or “all-rounder”, meaning that she was highly skilled in all areas. But she confessed that the goal of a solo debut, which she had planned for a vague time of “someday”, had come sooner than expected. On the afternoon of October 20th, CBS NoCut News interviewed Heejin at the Modhaus offices in Gangnam district, Seoul, ahead of the release of her solo album K. Her first album after moving agencies to Modhaus as well as her first solo, K was released on the 30th of last month. She received the tracks in early July, and preparation began in earnest in August. Modhaus is helmed by Mr. Jeong Byeong-gi, who participated from the early planning stages of the LOONA project. It is said that ARTMS group activities and Heejin’s solo activities were planned from the moment she joined the company. While it was pre-planned, Heejin still felt that the opportunity had come sooner than expected. She said, “I always had thoughts regarding solo promotions. I’d wanted to try it at some point, but I didn’t know it’d happen this soon. I thought it would take a few years.” Continuing, she said “In some ways, I’ve always been part of a team, but coming out solo, it does feel burdensome and I’m very nervous. I think this has actually been a stepping stone to make me grow faster, these moments. I’m often tired and physically strained, but I’ve been very grateful. I’ve always liked it when I’m able to grow quickly in a short amount of time”, while smiling. The title track, which could be called the face of an album, was chosen later than other tracks. Heejin, saying “You have to record the title first for the overall direction of an album to be decided. That way the side tracks can be chosen to accompany it well,” noted that it took quite some time to select and record the title track. “Algorithm” is a song about a breakup that keeps coming to mind after love. It’s a result of reconstructing a sound that led Western pop in the 80s and drawing out the dynamic texture of K-pop style. Asked how it was chosen to be the title, Heejin laughed, saying “To be honest, this… May not seem so modest, but I thought this was a genre I could pull off really well.” The song also aligned well with the image of Heejin as envisioned by CEO Jeong Byeong-gi. While Heejin said “I felt like it could come across as an extension of (debut track) ‘ViViD’. It really went well with my identity and direction as CEO-nim views it,” she avoided firmly defining her colors. She added, “There are still many things I’d like to do, and an incredible number of things still left to do. From that perspective, I’m grateful to have debuted early. I think that’s going to be a real benefit for me.” Even after the title track was selected, edits came frequently. Lyrics were redone many times, and the song was re-recorded six times. Heejin added that she repeatedly thought, ‘Today’s the last time right?’ ‘Today must really be the last time.’ Simply put, “everyone put their best into it”. Among the side tracks, “Nokia” is the most cherished. “I really wanted to try a song with an acoustic vibe”, said Heejin. “I’ve liked the guitar from the beginning. It’s an extremely emotional song with a guitar riff. It’s a breakup song but weirdly I felt really attached to it, and with the lyrics and all, it was really easy to immerse myself while recording. CEO-nim had said, ‘I would like to hear this song in your voice’. I am very glad that it turned out well. I look forward to performing this song on stage someday”. The interview occurred before the album’s release, so we were curious whether the album’s side tracks were very different, or had a similar feel. Heejin then replied, “Generally, I think a lot of tracks are easy to listen to and smooth. Including the title track. Whether in the car, or at home, or on the move, you can listen to a lot of these tracks easily. I listened to this album a lot, too. I think these songs won’t get old.” From a member of a group, to now having to lead an album by herself. Working on an album solo was indeed not easy. Heejin confessed, “Having to record many songs was very difficult in some ways. Your voice needs to keep up, but I caught the flu while recording. At one point, I couldn’t shake off the flu for 2~3 weeks, so I recorded in that state and eventually we had to scrap that whole thing. I realized that I needed to maintain my condition well. Because there really is no one else to cover for me.” Performing a song around three minutes all by herself while also making its dynamics come alive: that was the task before Heejin. She reviewed: “In the group, I usually did verses and took care of hooks, but I’ve learned a lot from having to handle the whole buildup and climax all by myself, things like ‘I have this powerful of a voice in me’, ‘I can sing this tenderly too’.” Another challenge was lyric-writing. Heejin participated in the lyrics of title track “Algorithm” as well as side tracks “Video Game”, “Nokia”, and “Addiction”. “Algorithm”, in particular, took many edits. Heejin said “The general topic was set in advance, but the pronunciation of something might be too awkward, or if the lyric was too abstract or broad, it needed to become more direct yet also not childish, so that was what I paid attention to.” Saying “It wasn’t easy to create something from nothing. But some songs were easy. Sometimes the ideas would bubble up and I’d come up with something quickly,” Heejin previewed that she would likely continue writing lyrics for her own albums in the future. She added, “If it only contains other people’s work, I feel like I’d be unsatisfied and volunteer to work on it. And there's fun that is only found in that.” CEO Jeong Byeong-gi’s encouragement also gave her great strength. “When I was first getting my lyrics confirmed, I felt so embarrassed. Because this was my first time trying it. CEO-nim is very honest, so if something sucks, he will say it sucks. So I sent him my lyrics late because of the embarrassment. But he told me, ‘This is well-written though?’ and that calmed my heart. After that, I figured weird lyrics and well-done lyrics are up to the listener, so I’ve become bolder about challenging myself. CEO-nim fortunately liked it, so I was able to work with confidence.” Being credited as a lyricist on all of the album’s songs aside from the intro and “Sad Girls Club” is especially meaningful for Heejin. She said “Honestly, I also wanted to work on the other song (“Sad Girls Club”), but the lyrics were completed too soon. There is a credit for the overall production, and CEO-nim said he would include my name, Jeon Heejin, on that line too. So it’s even more meaningful for me.” The title of this album, containing intro “Kehwa” and title track “Algorithm” alongside “Sad Girls Club”, “Video Game”, “Nokia”, and “Addiction” for a total of six songs, is K. The same K as in K-pop and K-drama. Asking “Is it not the word representing Korea”, Heejin explained that “It means wanting to become the album that represents Korea. I think the beauty that symbolizes Korea is really well-reflected, too.” In the album teaser video, Heejin wore a hanbok. Korean elements permeate the album, too. Heejin said: “Since it’s an album that represents Korea, I wanted a lot of components of Korean elements to be included too, and they accepted those ideas, so you can see a lot of this in the album. There will be two versions, A and B; one is the hanbok-oriented version that you could say is totally K, and the other one is more of a street vibe.” As mentioned earlier, CEO Jeong Byeong-gi was there at the beginning of LOONA. It was only natural to come to the Jeong-led Modhaus after winning against her former agency in the legal battle over her contract. What Heejin liked was “That I didn’t have to start over from 1.” Calling Jeong “someone who understands us so well”, Heejin said “That’s why I was able to prepare for this album so comfortably and actively put out my ideas, and they accepted them to a great extent.” What kind of vision did CEO Jeong present for a “solo Heejin”. Heejin said, “He wanted to show the maximum abilities that I couldn’t draw out (in the past). When I saw CEO-nim for the first time in a long while, he told me, ‘You’ve changed the most.’ Not in a bad way - in the past, when someone told me to do something, I would say ‘Yes, understood’ and carry it out, and that’s the mindset of a rookie. Now, having been an idol for a while and having pride in my own album, I speak out actively and honestly. I speak up even about inconvenient things without beating around the bush, and he said he really loves how my personality has become so spirited.” “Back then there used to be set goals, and now I think it wouldn’t be bad to be more flexible, go with the flow. I think it’s important to become well-established in everything, so I can catch any opportunity that comes, whatever it is. Honestly (this line of work) often doesn’t go the way I plan, so… I am a planner type, but often that actually makes me miss out on something.” (Laughs) Heejin made a wish: “I want to show people that I can fill out the stage even when I’m alone. I’m someone who’s so happy to step onto the stage. As much energy as I expend, I hope all of that is delivered to you.” Then, “This time, I hope it’ll be an opportunity for people who didn’t know me well to find out once and for all,” she emphasized. “I’m only going to be giving you unforgettable performances, so please look forward to it.”

  • [lastyvesniin] The Blog You Ordered Is Here (231102)

[T/N: This post combines two of Yves' posts from the same night: "Hello^^" and "The Blog You Ordered Is Here".] [Link to first post] [Link to second post] Post: Hello^^ ["Our restaurant is operating normally"] How many in your party? Please have a seat over there^^ . . . I'm going to write a post today I am sorry to make you wait for so long I will return after midnight Wish you tasty dinners and warm evenings Bye~~~~~~ +Due to requests to attach face photos… Comments section: Young: SWF review gogo please Yves: Yas understood Mh: What are you having for dinner Yves: Jaecheop-guk Lee Chaewon: Can I get tonkatsu? Yves: Yes yas tonkatsu will take 50 minutes. Is that okay?.*^^ Post: The Blog You Ordered Is Here Hello Have you been well The days have suddenly grown cold As for me? Just like an annual, recurring regional festival I caught a cold as the seasons changed, and I ate well and got sick and On some days I skipped meals because I had no appetite And I've been hearing the feel-good nagging from you all, and just like that I've been spending my days +Scroll warning Tottenham The routines These are sticker photos I took today And I can apply filters, amazing. One day a fallen leaf grew out of my toe (actually it fell) Today I ate this lasagna and... risotto..?.. But the employee there recognized me somehow and gave me free dessert, thank you, how did you know.. So fascinating Went to the SWF audience yesterday And I've been lying down for hours due to nausea... I'm a country kid so I can't ride in cars for long Sob I can't even do swings or seesaws or amusement park ridesㅜ Standing at SWF was so tiring So I was crouching from time to time And I found this sparkly piece of paper This reminded me of Queendom and the concert too And thinking to myself, so our fans must have had it this tough to watch us They must have gone home to lie down like me It was like I spilled gukbap in my heart, and I became a twenty-something woman who Cried alone while crouching in general admission (I didn't cry ㅋ) Seriously this part was so awesome and I was just Punching my forehead Of course I wore a beanie so it didn't hurt Sigh Bada unnie why do you keep smiling for me Let go of me, that unnie smiled at me first; Pretty pose when stepping out of the shop Just took one for no reason ㅋ Celplay (celebrity play) Mom sent me banchan once again Back in the day, taking Grandma's banchan out of the fridge to eat Used to be so natural, but living on my own now, I receive banchan instead.. Every time I feel guilty and thankful and everything Grandma is now older, so Mom makes the banchan for me Still tastes just as good The cooking skill of the women in our family doesn't go anywhere. When I first came to Seoul and lived in the underground practice studio Grandma used to come to Seoul herself to give me banchan But now, my grandmother asks to go back home after just a little bit of walking I'm 27 years old now too And all I can see is my family getting older and older When I'm still just like a child The fact that I want to help them smile more And at the same time, want to help them age slowly and gradually Is that somehow selfish - while thinking about that I pottered and made rice balls for Dohyeon to eat when she goes to work Late-night meal from some night Sometimes I'm confused whether my mind feels empty Or my belly feels empty And we agreed to call that "gaining weight" The trees have dyed their hair Can I touch you A synesthetic photo where you can feel the warm breath just by looking Ogu slept soundly when I laid out the warm padded jacket Are you doing well I was heading home and this seemed like my blog so I filmed it My favorite thing is lying down... Even knowing that caffeine doesn't suit me I live with coffee on me Sometimes I work hard on my job Sometimes I get off work in the morning And on the weekends I take leisurely walks often too Apparently we can't use those paper cups anymore This is an old photo.ᐟ This is the day I caught a cold The photos are ordered all over the place So it must have been hard to read ㅎㅎ But please look upon them kindly... Like this, I'm so brazen and slow And I talk a big game because I can run my mouth Got too many thoughts and worries Get sick here and there and all I do is whine And yet you still look forward to me and cheer for me I still cannot dare to fathom that heart But I don't think that's because of anything that I have I'm always grateful for everything that allowed You all and I to meet and cheer for each other in this way And I am working hard to pay it back ["For cherishing and encouraging and supporting and cheering and adding and pushing and worrying and agonizing"] Here I am with just words again... All I have are guilty feelings... All your feelings that you are sending via DM and comments and blog and Fromm I am reading all of them And I am praying for you to be genuinely happy So we are exchanging invisible hot packs With each other It will be winter soon, so I should stock up on some hot packs again At these sighs I exhale habitually, at the mere light greetings I write down If the worries that made you sick with concern Could be spat out even momentarily, I would love that very much So let us, together Live out tomorrow again I love ya ㅋ ["Goodbye..."] What a pointless post this is But thank you for waiting until this late hour And for reading We're closing up shop now so please go We need to shut down the kitchen Comments section: Yenny: Sooyoung, thank you for coming again like this! You are such an awesome person for your very existence ㅎㅎㅎ I'm happy I get to cheer for you. Even this waiting is so precious. I'm just thankful ㅎㅎㅎㅎ I'm still cheering for you today! Yesterday I again loved some Ha woman diligently.... I'll love you more today. Sleep tight and sweet dreams! A pretty person is allowed to do that ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Love you'-'!❤ I think your writing is always so good. I think I cheer for you even more because I know you're not just words ㅋㅋㅋ Thanks:)❤ Yves: I'm going to cry Hiyo: Kitchen closing ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Yibu unnie is so cute•••🍎❤️ Every sentence of unnie's is so relatable••• Especially that part about how you only see your family aging••• I want to establish myself already and be the one to give them better things and tastier things from now on and to make them happy.ᐟ Reading unnie's words while prepping for job search and getting emotional on this late night ㅎㅎㅎ I'm always cheering for you•••🩷 I'll give you all the hot packs of the heart you want •••❤️‍🔥 Yves: You. Are gonna do great. Got it? You're gonna be great no matter what Yves: Hwaiting for job search, also the counter is closed Yves: It's so cute how everyone's writing private comments, but it's a shame I have to keep these to myself, why are you writing private comments? You embarrassed???? Yves: Am I embarrasing to you?.?....???? So In: If unnie replies to my comment, the views on my blog go up... Yves: Is that so?

In the empty drawer, left all by itself This old cell phone Asleep as if abandoned Just like me That ringtone you used to call just played And I’ve collapsed I think I’m falling down You & I We’re gone and no more Left alone in this room Your familiar scent Your words, forever no matter what I want to believe them Such sweet lies You can fool me one more time I know all the words, but wanna hear them one more time They’re all lies Words I want to believe My day is Full of your thoughts Try as I might to hide them My feelings only long for you Cold white snow is falling Just like the day we met You whispered, calling me pretty Wordlessly I fell into your arms Come to me, I can’t let go You & I We’re gone and no more Left alone in this room Your familiar scent Your words, forever no matter what I want to believe them Such sweet lies You can fool me one more time I know all the words, but wanna hear them one more time Like the phone abandoned in the drawer You’re not even interested anymore Can we try one more time So don’t ya say goodbye it’s over Baby can we try Baby it ain’t no more You & I We’re gone and no more At your touch I’ve been trained And I’m waiting for you I want to believe them Such sweet lies You can kill me one more time I know it all, but I want to beg They’re all lies Words I want to believe My day is Full of your thoughts Maybe it’s a vain dream But I feel like you might return Fool me please 텅 빈 서랍 덩그러니 홀로 오래된 핸드폰 버려진 듯 잠들었어 마치 나처럼 네가 걸어주던 그 전화벨 흘러나와서 무너졌어 I Think I'm Falling Down You & I Come To Me I Can't Let Go You & I Can We Try One More Time So Don't Ya Say Goodbye It's Over Baby Can We Try Baby It Ain't No More You & I 사라지고 없잖아 너의 손길에 나는 길들여 진 채 널 기다리고 있어 믿고 싶은 말이야 달콤한 거짓말이야 한번 더 죽여도 좋아 다 알지만 조르고픈 내 맘 전부 거짓말 믿고 싶은 말 나의 하루는 온통 네 생각인데 헛된 상상이라도 네가 돌아올 것 같아 날 속여줘 ""Nokia" is a reminiscence upon one's abandoned self after love, like an old cell phone. The phone, left in a drawer as if abandoned, resembles being asleep with the power off. The track accentuates Heejin's sentimentality, as she interprets through her own voice without being bound to a certain tempo or mood." It reconstructs the sound of artists like Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Cyndi Lauper who led Western pop in the 80s, and maximizes the dynamic texture of K-pop style to immediately capture the listener's ears. The music video, just as shown in the teaser, shows Heejin living as a princess in the palace before getting into K-pop, escaping the palace, meeting friends and practicing choreography; in that way it depicts the image of an initiative-taking girl in an audition through the style of a K-drama. This tracks with the narrative of her escaping her old company to meet with friends and becoming one. ARTMS and Odd Eye Circle members Kim Lip, Jinsoul and Choerry all appear, and the surprise appearance of Haseul at the end adds to the fun." • Elle Korea, Nov 2023 - Interview with Chuu (231026)

Chuu’s Standing Solo Chuu has returned with her first mini album, Howl. She readies to set off alone, boldly. By Song Ye-in Q: We did our shoot in a studio that resembles home. What’s Chuu’s most cherished and beloved space at home? A: Home is one of the precious spaces where I can feel calm. I don’t invite anyone except my closest friends. My favorite is the living room. The sofa there is more comfortable than the master bed. I like to fall asleep on the sofa while watching TV. Feels like I’m really making the most of single life. Q: After this interview, you also need to cook for the Elle YouTube filming, right? Curious if you usually cook at home. A: I don’t have a ton of diverse cooking experiences, but there are dishes that I’m confident about. I use one whole freezer and the freezer compartment of a regular fridge, so two freezers total. Full of different ingredients and meal kits. Honestly I can confidently say I really make a great spicy bean paste stew. (Laughs) Get some homestyle bean paste, add even just a little tofu and squash, and it’s still delicious. The key is scallions and cheongyang pepper. The pepper is essential, and you can’t forget the chili powder either. I also like taking meal kits and adding green onion, hot peppers, and other ingredients I like. Q: What did you have for breakfast today? A: Japchae, chicken breast, and konjac rice, with cheongyang peppers that I sliced up! Q: You released your first mini album on October 18. You must have things that you’re excited about and worried about. A: I tried new things on the title track “Howl”, including vocal tone, so I’m a little excited. Worried about expressiveness, but I need to fill the stage from beginning to end, and expressing emotion is important. Q: What’s been the biggest change while preparing for solo activities? A: I’ve learned how to deeply love a song. No one will care about the story inside a song unless I deliver it to them. I studied music purely out of my own desires, and I found myself having fun while putting in the effort. Now I’m no longer afraid of the moment when I express myself. Q: Were you afraid to express yourself before? A: I worried about how other people saw me, and when I was asked for tough and powerful vibes, I felt some unexplained sense of awkwardness, too. I think I’ve grown a lot in the process of falling and immersing into “Howl”. Filming the music video over five days, I gradually gained more confidence. Q: Seeing the music video, it definitely felt new. A: Right. I wanted to show that Chuu has a lot of sides too, that I have no limits. Q: What are you most satisfied with about the Howl album? A: The stories in the songs. I’ve depicted the process where two wounded souls become little heroes to each other and heal those wounds. The girl and the monster both represent me. I raise myself up and comfort myself. Q: So it’s Chuu’s story, in the end. A: Yes. Everyone has difficult moments. I put a lot of thought into expressing the message of overcoming that and loving yourself more, inside of three minutes. There’s a lot that I’ve gotten to study properly while this album was produced. I learned how to analyze a song, how to express in recording, how a music video is made complete. As I’ve taken care and attention into every part, I hope my intent will reach the public. Q: What’s your favorite lyric in this album? A: In the title track “Howl”, I like the chorus that goes “Even if God turns his back on me, you’re right there. Shout loud, “It’s mayday”. Even if the whole world abandons you, I’m right here.” Saying even if this entire world abandons you, I’m gonna be here so I want you to be there too. Q: The lyricist Seo Ji-eum wrote that, right? A: Yes, I was so grateful because I admire her so much. The moment I read the lyrics, I realized that the words that I was screaming from within, that I hadn’t even known, were being expressed intact. Seeing the words that I could never tell anyone expressed in the lyrics, making me think that maybe the lyricist is my guardian angel, felt electric. I teared up. Q: Heard that you filmed the music video in Portugal. What are some memories from there. A: First of all Portugal is so pretty. And it’s the home of the wine I like. (Laughs) I filmed scenes singing with astonishing nature as the backdrop, and I was so happy that I was getting goosebumps. I filmed in this dusty warehouse to depict the wounded girl, and before I knew it I was immersed and the tears came even without using tear sticks. Q: You’ve been keeping a diary for over 7 years. Are there days that you remember vividly? A: I write my day’s happenings in detail, so I remember most of the writings vividly even if I don’t open up the diaries. I remember this one entry I wrote in my first year of high school. I got nervous at an audition, and my emotions of hating and feeling ashamed of that self, that whole thing is clearly recorded. Q: Why were you so nervous? A: In the audition, things that were really unlike me kept coming out. I danced while blaming myself so I ended up being clunky, and the thought that “If I fail here, some group that doesn’t have me in it will be born right?” made me endlessly gloomy. But thinking back, there were many joyful moments in that too. Memories of secretly running away with the members to hang out in Hangang, or going to eat soondae gukbap. The day I earned my driver’s license was nice, too. Q: Do you think of yourself as honest to your emotions? A: Yes. I express honestly that I’m happy when I’m happy, and say “no fun” if it’s not fun. However I try hard to hold back my tears. Q: Sometimes it’s better to let the tears burst than hold back. A: Right, it feels relieving to let it burst. But I think the answer is to hold back. It’s also a chore to cry. I might cry once a year, if that. Q: You’ve been attempting so many different hobbies on the YouTube channel that I’m not sure if there’s anything you haven’t tried. What are you into lately? A: I’ve taken up drawing. I bought a drawing app, never used it, and then I filmed some drawing content recently, and I ended up being so good. I think I’ve got a knack for it. (Laughs) I was thinking about “Underwater”, the song on Howl, and then I drew a jellyfish, and I’m pretty proud of that. Q: You’ve had diverse experiences while working all over entertainment, including variety shows and music. As you’ve gained in years, I feel like you might have felt impatient at times. A: The mini album has me impatient for the first time. With variety, even if the views aren’t high, I think it’s fine as long as it’s fun. I have the hazy hope that if I’m having fun, the general public might watch someday too. But with the album, I’m particularly keen for it to be loved. Q: How do you shake off that kind of feeling? A: There is no way. I just forget about it. Honestly I’m not so worried that my daily life is falling apart. Just “What should I do” is about the extent of it. One of my strengths is that I’m good at erasing and forgetting things from my head. (Laughs) I shake things off easily even without trying. Q: As a 25-year-old Chuu, how grown-up do you feel. A: I think a grown-up is someone who can come to a conclusion on their own. I’m very lacking in that aspect. Music is one field where I keep trying to do better, so I don’t think I’d be satisfied until I become exceptional. If you would love this new Chuu style, I think I could take another step further without fear. Q: What would be a magical incantation to strengthen yourself? A: “I’m not in a rush, so even if someone gets envious or jealous of me and trips me up, I won’t fall down.” Q: How much does Chuu love herself? A: Very much. Recently I’ve learned what I’m good at, when I’m happy, what I Iike, the moments that make me genuine. When I see myself laughing, I don’t feel embarrassed, only that “I like that”. I hope I never change how I feel, and I can be someone who gets tons of love and is full of happiness only. (Source)

  • The Neighbor, Nov 2023 - Interview with Chuu (231023)

“I put my honest feelings that I couldn't say into songs.” Chuu, you’ve been doing a variety of activities. What do you really want to do? I have thought that you’ve been doing other activities to lay the groundwork to sing. It’s not that I specifically partake in other activities in order to sing. The work in this area is fun, and matches my dispositions as well. When I sing, there is a different joy, and there are times where I am deeply moved. But with variety shows or photoshoots like today’s, these help raise my self-esteem. Among all the activities you’ve done; web variety, YouTube, going on shows, even photoshoots, what was the happiest moment? While album activities are the most precious and bring me the most joy, all the steps of preparing are fun. More so than the moment that explodes on release, the process of preparation, the tension of anxiously waiting for the joy that comes when people like it; that's a thrill for me, and I'm happy maintaining that tense state. I'm quite tense. It’d be nice to hear about your goal too. A short-term one. Since the album is coming out soon, the short-term goal is to make the fans as well as first-time listeners of my album to keep listening to my music, and to make them curious about my next steps. Thinking a bit bigger, I’d like to go up on an awards ceremony stage as a soloist. Chuu’s vocal skill is what surprised me upon listening to the album. You were this great of a singer? I don’t think I’ve had many chances to let people hear my singing. I’ve sung on live broadcasts and OSTs and such, but I’ve never really shone brightly with my own music in front of the public. So on this album, I prepared carefully in genres that I like and have wanted to attempt, and I aimed to show my colors to the public. I think all these songs are my style and express me well, so I hope you’ll look forward to it. What’s something you wanted to make sure goes into the album? I think the messaging aspect was big. “Howl” is a song that contains my honest feelings that I’ve wanted to speak but couldn’t. I might not look it, but with my personality, I can’t express my problems or inner feelings to others well. This song let me unpack and show my inner feelings that I’ve wanted to pour out at some point, but also wanted to ignore because of awkwardness. I’ve been comforted a lot by this song too. And I’ve unknowingly gotten emotional while singing “Howl”. Like the lyric “my little hero”, I hope it can be a comfort and hope to many people. It’s your first album. I’m sure hopes are high, and it could be a turning point too. The songs I prepared are really good, and I feel certain that anyone who listens to them would like it. So there’s no anxiety, and I hope you will listen comfortably. Please look forward to the next album too. I want to be a Chuu who can make you expectant. It’s an album assembled from shards that suit your image. I think there will be a lot of things that are inside of me, but the public doesn’t know much about yet. It’s my first solo album filled with my voice, so I hope you’ll pay a lot of attention to the voice. People have seen me mostly on variety or ads, so many don’t know how I sound when I sing. When you listen to “Howl”, you’ll hear my unique tone in the medium-low register, and I think you’re going to be startled. And I’ve also changed up my style, too. Bleached my hair for the first time, and vibe-wise you’ll also see this hefty, rebellious side of me that you haven’t before. Seeing from the outside, Chuu makes me wonder how your sense of identity can be so tough. I don’t know either, actually. I think it’s because I don’t take external criticism deeply. If there’s a problem, I just look for ways to resolve it myself, and I don’t really try to tell anyone else. So I don’t exactly know how good I am at bouncing things off, how tough I am. In my work, the joy is much greater, so I’ve almost never thought of it as something hard. One’s twenties are anxious and turbulent times, with new experiences. Aren’t there many friends who struggle with finding a direction for their activities, or get swayed by assessments about them? That’s true. And sometimes assessments of my performances do loom large. Everyone has a different way of receiving that. I think that the path to overcome that kind of hardship is to reflect on yourself and arrive at an understanding, rather than relying on others, and I think it makes you tougher. Just like a wound healing. So while I can console a friend who’s facing a tough situation, and of course I can also receive comfort in that process, in the end I think the most important thing is to recover yourself. Some people lack faith in themselves. What would you tell them to teach them how to not be swayed? Here’s what I’d say. At your age, it’s nothing strange to be swayed. And it’s not a bad thing to enjoy that process. You can’t hope to be happy and safe every single day. Once you’ve overcome that difficult moment, and when you’re looking back someday, I think those things won’t feel so big anymore. And you’ll feel that those events helped your current mindset and thoughts to take root. I try to stare straight and overcome my difficult moments, rather than avoid them. Would I not learn more from that experience, then? How could we give people positive energy, like Chuu does? I think I’m not heavily swayed even when I feel weaker. It’s best not to think thoughts that cause you to hurt. Because those things become poison. I try to only tell myself good things. Try to keep my mind disciplined, only see good things, only eat good things. I found my own method in that way. You have to make time to invest in yourself, too. And the most important thing is to not blame yourself. Where do you think you are right now, compared to your plans? I’m still at the start line. I had this big worry. It’s true that people think of me as cute and give me affection, but what I wanted to do originally was to become famous by singing. I’m grateful for the attention I receive now, but I want to become famous through my album and become more loved that way. I believe that that moment is going to come. And that’s why I think this is just the start. You’re saying that you’ve built a good foundation up until now, right? I used to worry that people might no longer seek me out. Because popularity is something that comes and goes in a flash. I had anxiety too, but my prime has not arrived yet, and I can create something going forward. I’m always going to feel that something is lacking, going to do my best in my future albums, going to work hard to be more loved. Listening to your music makes me curious about Chuu’s sensibilities. What influences you and inspires you and makes you respond? My emotional sensibility comes out of comfort. That can be sad, or happy. My emotions are like waves. Sometimes loud, sometimes tranquil like the morning sea. I think these varied emotions helped my singing. Also, I like funny things that I can laugh with. I look up variety show compilations and “Legendary Running Man” and things like that. I’m a person who seeks out amusement. What’s the most important value in Chuu’s life? First is happiness. And I need mental calmness. The second most important thing is to protect and love myself. The strength to bounce off the hits that come from outside. That’s important. And third is the joy that comes from work. Without that, it just feels like time is passing. Feeling joy from work brings happiness, and calms my mind. Ultimately, what’s most important is what I do and where I find happiness and joy. (Source)

  • [Lyrics] Haseul - Plastic Candy (231026)

Shine A Through The City here it bathes in light The moon’s especially clear tonight Like a white glass bead, a silhouette That calls for me once again When I first met the colorless clear crystal, I melted in a moment, no undoing it Oh why am I like this This sweet sensation I know it’s an illusion Yet I keep trying to swallow Clear plastic candy Leaking from within, the soft light makes me dizzier Without even a scent This tiny shard I hold in my mouth again It was certainly so sweet I want to remember you like that Plastic candy filling my mouth I should spit it out But like a habit, to my left cheek I pass you over Clear plastic candy Leaking from within, the soft light makes me dizzier Without even a scent This tiny shard I hold in my mouth again Clear plastic candy Blooming from within, the soft light makes me dizzier Without even a scent A tiny shard I hold in my mouth again Clear plastic candy The soft light even more Without even a scent Shine A Through The City 여길 비추는 달은 유난히 더 선명해 하얀유리 구슬 같은 실루엣 그게 또 날 불러내 무색무채 결정과 처음 마주쳤을때 돌이킬틈 없이 순식간에 녹았어 오 왜이래 나 이 달콤한 기분이 착각인줄 다 알면서 계속 삼키려해 투명한 Plastic Candy 그 속에서 새어나온 은은한 빛이 더 어지럽게해 향기조차 없는 이자그마한 조각을 또 머금네 분명하게 가득 달콤했다고 그렇게 널 기억하고파 입안을 채운 Plastic Candy 뱉어야 하는데 습관처럼 왼쪽볼로 너를 넘겨 투명한 Plastic Candy 그 속에서 새어나온 은은한 빛이 더 어지럽게해 향기조차 없는 이자그마한 조각을 또 머금네 투명한 Plastic Candy 그 속에서 피어나온 은은한 빛이 더 어지럽게해 향기조차 없는 이자그마한 조각을 또 머금네 투명한 Plastic Candy 은은한 빛이 더 향기조차 없는 "Haseul's "Plastic Candy" is a solo track being unveiled at her first concert, Music Studio 81.8Hz. • [Interview] News1 interview with Loossemble (231023)

Reporter Ahn Tae-hyeon Recently, Loossemble met News1 and talked about being at a new starting point, and about how they feel as they wait for the day when the twelve LOONA members will meet again. We have heard their honest words. Part 1: 'From LOONA', Loossemble "starts anew with a rookie mindset... Gained hope" As you debut anew as Loossemble, not LOONA, is there any change in your mindset? ▶ Hyeju: We have started anew as Loossemble, and we are enthusiastically doing things that we have wanted to do before. We are working hard on everything, with the real mindset of rookies. Whether it’s being onstage or doing activities, starting anew like this with the fans brings us a lot of nervous excitement, I think. Going from twelve members to five, it seems like the environment must be quite different compared to before. How are you adjusting to that? ▶ Hyunjin: Going from twelve members’ parts to five, there are now more parts to pay attention to. So we increased practice times as much as we could and tried to make the most complete album we could. From doing activities as twelve members to doing activities as five, what is the biggest change that you feel? ▶ Yeojin: Firstly, wait times are shorter now. Makeup time is shorter, and we get home faster. Lesson times are also shorter. Also things have gotten a little quieter. (laugh) And there’s less of a chance of your food going missing. With twelve people there’s a lot of menu items so sometimes things go missing, and that’s less likely to occur now. And with five members, communication is quick. Other than that, with many members, things are bustling and there’s a lot of people, so there were lots of comforts with that. There was the reassurance, but even with the four others now I feel reassured, so I like that a lot. (Laugh) One part of Loossemble, of course, is to carry on the identity of “LOONA”. While maintaining that prior identity, what other aspects would you like to show that are unique to Loossemble? ▶ Hyeju: We want to carry on the enterprising message that we gave as LOONA. And another differentiating point is that we’ve come back with a song that’s more easy-listening, more accessible to the general public. We don’t really place restrictions on genre, so we expect to continue seeking colors that are unique to us. Did you not have many concerns about debuting after the dispute with your former agency? ▶ Vivi: Actually, at first we didn’t expect to be able to come back like this, and as there were many issues and situations, we couldn’t help but to worry. But thanks to people around us, we gained strength and hope. And so we gathered together like this thinking, “let’s do well”. Are there any genres that Loossemble wants to give a shot at? ▶ Yeojin: We have done many genres so far, so we would like to try any song that would fit us, regardless of genre. Is there any one genre that you think best suits Loossemble currently? ▶ Hyeju: I think it was really difficult to find a song that landed in the middle ground between all five of us. “Sensitive” was just that song. It wasn’t too tough, but it didn’t have too much of a young feeling. I think it had a lot of points that perfectly matched what we could show given our ages. Confident, able to deliver bright energy, but isn’t too light - I think we’re doing a genre that allows us to offer such a performance. Is there any response from the fans that you remember, after the release of the album? ▶ Vivi: Because we first went on a U.S. tour, we saw the U.S. fans’ reactions first, which was so passionate, they really liked it. So we became even more confident. It felt like we gained confidence. ▶ Go Won: The fans told us this time that this seemed like an album we put a lot of love into. As we really did focus on every little thing, and all the members had lyric credits, a lot of preparations went into this album. It moved me very much to see our fans understanding that part very well. ▶ Hyunjin: Before us, ARTMS (where other members gathered) had their release first. I liked to see this the most because I think that gave the fans hope for the future. Also many people responded saying that the song is really good. I felt very proud of this as well. Part 2: Loossemble: "When all 12 LOONA members gather, we want to create greater synergy" How did you prepare for “Sensitive” in the debut album? ▶ Go Won: It contained a bit of the musical feeling that we had done before, as well as Loossemble’s unique traits, and a lot of the direction we would like to move forward in. As we were debuting again after difficult times, we wanted to assure you that our choice was certain. How were the other LOONA members’ reactions? ▶ Go Won: The members even attended our showcase. When they got there they gave us many compliments like “I like this song” or “I like that song”, and said how much we’ve developed. (Laugh) ▶ Hyeju: Also when albums come out, we promote each other on Instagram Stories and cheer for one another. We raise each others’ confidence. In Hyeju’s case, you changed your stage name. ▶ Hyeju: First, I wanted to use a name that more easily rolls off the tongue. And although I love and consider precious the name of Olivia Hye that I had before even now, with the mindset of a new beginning I wanted to let my real name be known a little more to the general public. With Chuu and Yves with solo activities, and other members in the group ARTMS, if there were to come a day where all twelve of you gather, what image would you like to show then? ▶ Hyeju: Nothing has been decided on what style we should do in detail. But when we gather again there is a hope that with each of our abilities improved, we will be able to create an even greater synergy. I would like to not lose the original color of LOONA and carry that on when all twelve of us have come together, and show you songs that are moving. Any hopes or expectations you have for this album, results-wise? ▶ Yeojin: The reaction has been better than I thought, so I told myself, “Let’s not get even more ambitious.” At the start, I thought, “It’s the first release, so even if the response is relatively poor, don’t think too negatively about it,” but the reaction was better than I thought. It makes me think the most about working even harder. ▶ Hyeju: I think that us hoping for certain results brings pressure onto the fans. With results, I think that if you bring good output, results will follow. You’re in a situation where you can aim for a rookie award again as Loossemble. ▶ Yeojin: I’m very much looking forward to that. (laugh) ▶ Hyeju: When we were really newcomers, we really wanted to win the rookie award. You can only receive that award at that one time. If you miss out on it, that’s unfortunate. I didn’t know that we would get another chance to win a rookie award, but if we do win, I think it would be a meaningful award. What is the future as Loossemble that you’d like to create? ▶ Hyeju: As we have successfully wrapped up our U.S. tour, our goal is to meet fans in a wider variety of countries. And I hope to have opportunities to develop as singers individually. I think a good goal would be for all of us to do well until the day we can perform onstage as twelve once again. I would like very much to work happily and healthily. ▶ Hyunjin: As our occupation is one in which we receive love, I hope we can receive lots of love from our fans and the public. (Laugh) Any final words you’d like to say to the fans? ▶ Hyeju: First, I would like to thank our fans for waiting for our album’s release as Loossemble and for supporting us. Thanks to all your love, we have gained a lot of confidence, so I think we will be able to continue activities healthily and joyfully. I want to say that we have missed you so much and that we love you very much. Source: (1) (2)

  • [Interview] ET News interview with Loossemble (231017)

[Original article] "Loossemble, 'Five-Colored Allure Beyond the Synchronized Choreo, A Lunar Diary Begun Again'" By Park Dong-sun, ET News Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, and Hyeju, who have reappeared under the new name of “Loossemble”, dream of moving forward anew with global fans, with lively charms that span both on and off the stage. Recently we met with Loossemble, who have released their first mini album Loossemble, at the CTD E&M office in Seoul’s Gangnam district. Loossemble is a five-member group composed of Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, and Hyeju, who represented points such as cute verve, sharp charisma, and understated sexiness within LOONA. During the interview, alongside a demeanor that spanned seriousness and lightheartedness, Loossemble showed off a new beginning with fans that began with the promotions of their first title track “Sensitive”, and the confidence that comes along with it. The performance has shifted to a captivating vibe. The background for this? Hyunjin, Vivi: Firstly, there is the fact that the choreo team has changed (laugh). If the key focus until now was on synchronized dancing as a 12-member group, this time we wanted to show a new feeling and direction debuting as a five-membered group. The captivating Sensitive and the refreshing, easy-listening Strawberry Soda have contrasting charms. Was there any competition for what song would be the title track? Hyeju: Actually the contender for that was Real World. Strawberry Soda was a bit too lively to show a performance with a different charm. Vivi: Sensitive already had the album’s colors and message included, so it seemed that we would be able to show ourselves with a trendy tone through it. The performance and MV for the title track Sensitive grab attention with members having evolved to a higher level. If each of you were to pick one visual point? Yeojin: I thought I looked really pretty when I was running with a big smile (laugh) Hyeju: I thought my vibe in the intro and chorus was very unique (laugh) Go Won, Hyunjin: The stage is my personal color, no need for words (laugh) Vivi: The title track and concept were to my preferences and in turn, I think it shows that well. If you were to match each of Loossemble’s first album’s B-sides to a member that suits it well? Hyunjin: Hyeju - Sensitive. She goes well with the refined vibe with her sanpaku-eyes. Vivi: Yeojin - Real World. The song’s energy matches how lively Yeojin is. Go Won: Vivi - Sensitive. The song goes back and forth between moderate and energetic. I think it goes well with Vivi unnie’s calmness. Yeojin: Go Won - Newtopia. With her personality of liking songs that make you feel overwhelmed, unnie’s lyrics such as “blocking my view” fit her well. Hyeju: Hyunjin - Sensitive. Her long arms add to her dancing appeal. With the oldest and youngest members of LOONA in Loossemble, the performance and harmonies stood out. How is Loossemble with regards to vocals? Hyunjin: I think the unique voices of Go Won and Hyeju with those of myself, Yeojin, and Vivi present an attractive combination. Yeojin: I think previous rap members trying new things with high notes or vocal parts presents a different charm. With the new transition with Loossemble, if you were to pick what you’re in charge of with regards to charms? Yeojin: Go Won unnie’s the joke-fairy with her way of talking with that hint of silliness (laugh) and Hyeju unnie is principled and has the charm of an unshaking boulder. (laugh) Vivi: Hyunjin is the 4-D visual. For a month she was really into being Aeongie and would only reply with “aeong”. But now, after becoming the leader, I think she has taken the visual position. (laugh) Hyunjin: Vivi unnie’s thoughts are deep and she is a great listener to the members. She is the “tree” and “mom”. (laugh) Go Won: Yeojin is the maknae who’s full of aegyo no matter the location, and Loossemble’s moodmaker. (laugh) Hyeju: I think I’m in charge of attracting female stans. (laugh) What has changed as a member of Loossemble? Hyunjin: I like actively doing things, and as the leader, I like that the members follow along. Just one thing, I’m taken aback when Yeojin teases me about being clumsy. (laugh) Yeojin: Hyunjin unnie gives good reactions so I do tease her often (laugh). Whether it’s LOONA or Loossemble, all the unnies who took up their responsibilities played along well even when I acted rotten. Vivi, Go Won: Getting ready and heading home has become faster (laugh). Everyone’s also very considerate about each of our lifestyles so it feels more free. Hyeju: I’m glad that as Loossemble we’ve released an album and have been able to go on a tour as well. With Loossemble’s new start, who’s the member with the biggest change? Hyunjin: Hyeju’s vibe has done a 180 with her tan. Vivi: Hyunjin was in the maknae line in LOONA 1/3 or even in the full group but now as leader I can see with my eyes that she has developed a sense of responsibility. Hyeju: It feels like Yeojin is more active when speaking and leading than before. With the U.S. tour just before the debut, any new attitudes you’ve formed? Vivi: The response was really great when we showed the performance beforehand through a three-week tour of the U.S. Thanks to that, I gained confidence and was able to be more relaxed for my new first appearance. Hyunjin: I really couldn't predict the reaction to us showing an unknown song for the first time, but I was moved by the fans singing along and cheering. I still can’t forget the cheers I heard through the in-ears, starting from the opening. Go Won: The nervousness of the first performance in the U.S. as Loossemble changed to certainty, the moment we saw the fans in person. With the three-week stage, we got more accustomed to the choreography, so it feels much more natural now. Hyeju: Seeing fans who were on our tour last year come again this year, I felt confident and assured about our music. Yeojin: People recognized us on the streets while we were on tour so it felt like we were celebrities (laugh). I was able to gain confidence as Loossemble. Your new start as five - the most impactful message of support that you’ve heard? Yeojin: "No matter what path you walk, we'll always support you". It made me think that I need to work harder for the fans. Vivi: Fans that we met through the U.S. tour before the domestic debut gave us a bigger reaction than expected and said, "Thanks for coming together," and that made me happy. Hyunjin: The members and fans praise me that my “ribs are visible” (laughs). I figured my preparations before the new promotion must be showing well. Go Won: Yves unnie came to our showcase and said “You guys’ singing was kinda good.” It was a compliment from unnie who worked with us on the B-side track, so I liked that. Hyeju: I felt the best when fans said “This is the best album released to date”. It felt like a validation of our hard work. Five years down the road since the full LOONA debut. Do you think you’ve been walking along alright? Yeojin: Life has many question marks, but I think that if you believe in your path as the right answer, then it’s right. I’ve been walking well every day with that mindset. Vivi: With lots of happenings and new experiences, I think each of those are times that become good influences. I think that will show through a bit better as Loossemble. Hyunjin, Go Won: It hasn’t always been good things happening, but we think that became the motivation to help us do something new. I think being able to meet precious members and fans helped us walk well. Hyeju: I felt myself lacking in many ways after having debuted without any trainee period, but watching myself enjoy the Loossemble debut performance with no regrets, I realized I’ve grown a lot and that I’ve walked well. Any key points for this round of activities, or your image as Loossemble? Go Won: Since this is the beginning of a message that each member is a protagonist, I hope you’ll focus on our many individual parts and the members’ charms that show through in them. Hyeju: Since we’ve started off with a U.S. tour, I’d like to meet even more global fans and express diverse music and concepts. I’d like to be a singer who’s around for a long time through that.

  • [Interview] Newsis - Loossemble: “Just like another unit of LOONA… The 12 are forever” (231020)

[Original article] By Chu Seung-hyeon, Newsen The group Loossemble possesses a shadow. It’s the shadow of Girls of the Month (LOONA), which had been their identity for seven years. You can see their origins in the team name itself, a combination of the English name “LOONA” and the word “Assemble”, meaning to gather. The message they want to impart through their music connects, too. The genre may have changed, but the message of “Trust in yourself and boldly move forward” remains the same. Loossemble did not particularly try to rid themselves of that shadow; instead, they await the day when that shadow, shrouded in darkness, will come into light and become clear. After a conflict with their former agency, the LOONA members have separated to form new groups or turn solo. Loossemble, for which Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi, Go Won, and Hyeju came together, is one of them. It was not an easy decision to start over under a new name. “We had built up a lot as LOONA, so I worried a lot about whether I’d do well redebuting, or whether there would be any fans who would wait for us.” (Go Won) It wasn’t only the redebut that they worried about. They could never have imagined that they would come to legal battles over unfair contracts against the company they had joined to achieve their dreams. Exhausted by the lawsuit, some members even thought about giving up the dream of being singers. “As big as my dreams were, I was hurting all the more for it. While helping out with my family business, I’d put away most of my thoughts about being a singer. But in that state, I looked up my old performances, and I realized: ‘I still have too much lingering attachments to leave the stage.’” (Hyeju) While some members were feeling lost, the one who became their center was the leader, Hyunjin. As the anxious situation stretched on, when even contact between the members felt wary, Hyunjin worked to ensure that the members would not be scattered any further. Even the reason why she settled down at CTD E&M, formed by CEO Yoon Do-yeon who was a former Blockberry director, was because she was thinking about her team, not herself. “I tried to step up when I could to find a company that would accept all of the members. The reason why I chose this company was because it was willing to bring the other members, too. Vivi unnie and I were in similar circumstances, so we relied on each other, held onto hope, and kept waiting.” (Hyunjin) The fans helped them feel secure about their futures. Even in a situation where they could not easily talk or be active, they sent endless messages of encouragement. “The fans told me, ‘I will go whichever way you go.’ When I thought that it wasn’t just me that was having a hard time during the lawsuit, but the fans had it just as hard, I felt like I shouldn’t just give up here, but I should hold their hand and we should keep going together.” (Yeojin) “One time when I wrote a letter to fans, I told them ‘It’s okay to take a break and come back’. But in that situation, the fans were the ones who told me that. That made me think, “The fans are cheering for me and waiting for me like this. I need to get back up and do this.” (Hyeju) The reason why they went on an international tour alongside their debut was also to say thanks to fans worldwide. LOONA had garnered great popularity abroad, to the point of touring in 13 U.S. cities and in Europe. Coinciding with their debut on the 15th of last month, Loossemble performed across 10 places in America. “Even though we speak different languages, the American fans sing along to all the Korean songs and dance with us. I felt such great energy seeing them even dress up in the same stage fits.” (Go Won) For the disappointed domestic fans, they prepared a field day where they could breathe close by. Near the end of July, they sweated and chatted together with around 100 fans in the Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Seoul, building bonds. Vivi said, “That was before our debut and during the album prep, so we couldn’t show them any music or dance. But the fans still waited for us, and so we were able to hold the field day.” Alongside the new beginning, many things had to change. The team name is a big one, and they also came up with a new fandom name of “C.Loo”. Hyeju voluntarily changed her stage name from Olivia Hye to her real name. Some fans are saddened by the change in these memory-laden names. Vivi said “We explained that C.Loo is a fandom name for the five of us in Loossemble, and Orbit is the fandom name for the twelve LOONA girls, so we’re not abandoning anything and both still exist.” Hyunjin added, “We told the fans that we’ll call them ‘Orbit’ once again when the 12 of us reunite, and they were happy about that.” In this way, even when the music changes, LOONA is an unerasable shadow. Loossemble emphasized that “The fact that we are LOONA has not changed.” Hyeju said “We thought hard about how to reflect LOONA’s colors into Loossemble. Going forward, we want to add some more stories that are unique to Loossemble, so that Loossemble and LOONA can connect. So that when we reunite in the future, nothing will feel disconnected.” The reason that they picked “Sensitive” as the debut title, after monitoring so many tracks, was also because it felt right at home with LOONA. “Many songs have a sense of explosion in the chorus, but this song, just like LOONA’s “Why Not?”, the instruments drop out in the chorus. We felt like that section would become key and be addictive.” (Hyunjin) It’s no coincidence, either, that the song they heard without knowing about the producers turned out to be one that LOONA’s Yves worked on. The side track “Strawberry Soda” had a distinct color, because it was someone who knew LOONA better than anyone. “The lyrics saying ‘Don’t give up, just keep walking’ felt like words that unnie was telling us. And they’re lyrics that comfort her, too.” (Hyeju) “While carrying on the colors from before, I want to show off even more charms of us five. It’s possible that with 12 of us, it was hard to see the individual charms. We filled this up with songs that carry the old image and lore, but that we could pull off well.” (Yeojin) With every step that Loossemble takes, there is a bigger picture of the full group of LOONA. Including Loossemble and also Kim Lip, Jinsoul, Choerry, Haseul, and Heejin, over half of the members have joined up with people who participated in producing LOONA. Vivi said, “We think that LOONA hasn’t gone anywhere, but just like how we used to have units, we are another one of those units.” “We may be walking our separate paths, but we think our destination is the same. We don’t know when it’s going to be, but there will come a time when we’ve settled into stability and we feel like ‘Now’s the time’. The timing has to line up, so when that time comes we are going to actively do this together.” (Yeojin) The LOONA members are also active in communicating with each other. They’ve been sharing their music with Odd Eye Circle, which debuted earlier, as well as Chuu and Heejin who are debuting solo. They’ve become even tighter after going through hard times together. “All the members came to this showcase, too. They said it felt weird to be performing separately. Chuu unnie was the only one who couldn’t come because of a schedule, but afterwards she texted to say she looked up and watched everything. It’s the same as if she had come. The twelve of us are forever.” (Go Won) Thinking of it as if they’ve passed through a dark tunnel momentarily, and now are crossing different bridges towards the same destination, they’ve gained the peace of mind to enjoy things. The goal is to increase their public stature, each member filling out the things they never got to do before. Hyunjin, Yeojin, Vivi and Go Won have been getting acting lessons constantly. Hyeju has a desire to become successful as a solo artist. “I think the best group is a group that is for the fans. The team can only exist when fans do, and fans can only exist when the team does. If the fans want to see it, whether it’s variety, acting, performance, I want to show them everything.” (Yeojin) “As C.Loos have been waiting, we’ll be very active and show you even better things. Don’t let go of our hand, and let’s make good memories and stay together until the end. We love you.” (Hyunjin)

Just felt oddly different That was it at the beginning Slowly, you show your true colors Sometimes, those jet-black eyes Where might they wander I can’t tell, and I’m curious Two different people Like Mars and Venus At any rate, both in this same Solar System here But you and I surely Come from somewhere farther Drifting before coming here And we’ve come across each other The shape of our eyes, noses, mouths Or the numbers of our arms and legs Even if they were a bit different, it wouldn’t have been strange The way we love Our thoughts, language, conversation style, all different But I like you, the beauty of it all Let’s not force us to be the same We’re different species to begin with Preserve yourself the way you are One might find in sci-fi, this story How could this love be, it’s psychic Definitely some kind of superpower thing Two different people Like Mars and Venus At any rate, both in this same Solar System here But you and I surely Come from somewhere farther Drifting before coming here And we’ve come across each other The color and temperature of our blood Or the location of our brain and heart Even if they were a bit different, it wouldn’t have been strange The way we love Our thoughts, language, conversation style, all different But I like you, the beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all Unpredictable Inexplicable But still we’re fallin’ The beauty of it all 묘하게 다르단 느낌 첨엔 딱 그 정도였지 서서히 본색을 드러내 가끔 그 새까만 눈이 어디를 헤매는 건지 알 수가 없어 난 궁금해 서로 다른 둘은 화성과 또 금성 쨌든 둘 다 같은 이 태양계지만 너와 나는 분명 그보다 먼 곳을 떠돌다가 와서 마주친 것 같아 눈, 코, 입의 모양과 팔, 다리의 개수가 조금 달랐대도 이상하지 않았을 거야 사랑하는 방식도 생각, 언어, 대화 style 전부 다르지만 네가 좋아 beauty of it all 억지로 맞추지 말기 애초에 다른 종이니 너는 너답게 잘 보존해 SF에 나올 법한 story 어쩜 이 사랑은 psychic 초능력 같은 게 분명해 서로 다른 둘은 화성과 또 금성 쨌든 둘 다 같은 이 태양계지만 너와 나는 분명 그보다 먼 곳을 떠돌다가 와서 마주친 것 같아 피의 색과 온도나 뇌와 심장 위치가 조금 달랐대도 이상하지 않았을 거야 사랑하는 방식도 생각, 언어, 대화 style 전부 다르지만 네가 좋아 beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all The beauty of it all 예측할 수 없어 설명할 수 없어 그래도 우린 fallin' The beauty of it all ""Aliens" is a pop track that progresses around tropical-feeling pluck synths and drum sound. Woo woo woo This strange blue light Spreads in my heart Sprawling dizzily My sea Dive, it pulls me in Slowly, I sink below The swaying of those big waves I’m feeling As if possessed, entering this embrace And facing this feeling I’m swimming underwater, feel it A little deeper I sink Into the thicker darkness I plunge No one could know about this place Swayed this way and that I’m swimming, drifting I ask where this might be But I wouldn’t know, a labyrinth in my heart Only I could wander in it Underwater My eyes closed at the silence It’s coming in, this large wave I’m struck and swept away again This cold sea keeps on going Until I’m out of breath It holds my feet, won’t let go Far away I can hear The voice calling to me Now underwater, with me The white light I can see faintly Beckons to me Come, hither No one could know about this place Swayed this way and that I’m swimming, drifting I ask where this might be Silent, a labyrinth in my heart Only I could wander in it Underwater Woo woo woo Underwater Woo woo woo Underwater You wouldn’t know where it ends, this place Freely seeking a path I’m headed towards the sky Wherever I touch becomes a road My stopped time starts to move And I can fill it up again Underwater Woo woo woo Underwater Woo woo woo Underwater Woo Woo Woo Underwater Woo Woo Woo Underwater Woo Woo Woo Underwater "Underwater is an R&B pop track which makes a strong impression with a warm and cozy acoustic guitar sound, minimal beat, and a melody like swimming in water laid on top. The lyrics, which say that it's okay to wander in the emotions that sometimes come for no reason and pull you into the pitch-black waters, combine with Chuu's emotional vocals and magnify the song's atmosphere." Even if the world just ended like this Good, I don’t think I’d feel anything I put up the wall a little higher It’s okay, I’m safe here When I can’t avoid going outside I wear a cloak called a smile I don’t want to be found out But I wish somebody would find me out Oh you know, oh you know, oh you know When the sun sets, get home When the sun sets, get home Let alone the world, we couldn’t save Anything at all, and now we’ll save each other Woo woolf, shout loud, “It’s mayday” Even if the whole world abandons you I’m right here Woo woolf, shout loud, “It’s mayday” Even if God turns his back on me You’re right there Sometimes I’m afflicted by nightmares Then I feel the touch of your hands “So it’s you, my little hero” You’ve got to protect me, until I’m asleep again Oh you know, oh you know, oh you know If you can hear me, get home If you can hear me, get home In this battlefield of a city Nothing but wounds, now we’ll save each other Woo woolf, shout loud, “It’s mayday” Even if the whole world abandons you I’m right here Woo woolf, shout loud, “It’s mayday” Even if God turns his back on me You’re right there 이대로 세상이 망해도 잘 됐어 아무렇지 않을 것 같애 한 뼘 더 벽을 쌓아 올려 괜찮아 이곳에서 나는 안전해 그래도 피치 못할 외출 그럴 땐 웃음이란 망토를 쓰곤 해 들키고 싶지 않아 나를 하지만 누군간 꼭 알아줬음 해 Oh you know oh you know oh you know 해가 저물면 get home 해가 저물면 get home 세상은커녕 그 무엇도 구할 수 없던 우린 이제 서로를 구해볼까 해 Woo woolf 크게 소리쳐 'mayday야' 온 세상이 너를 버려도 나는 여기 있어 Woo woolf 크게 소리쳐 'mayday야' 신이 내게 등을 돌려도 너는 거기 있어 악몽에 시달려 난 가끔 그러다 느껴지는 너의 손길에 '너구나, 나의 작은 영웅' 다시 잠들 때까지 지켜줘야 해 Oh you know oh you know oh you know 내가 들리면 get home 내가 들리면 get home 전장 같은 이 도시에서 상처만 남은 우린 이제 서로를 구해볼까 해 Woo woolf 크게 소리쳐 'mayday야' 온 세상이 너를 버려도 나는 여기 있어 Woo woolf 크게 소리쳐 'mayday야' 신이 내게 등을 돌려도 너는 거기 있어 "Title track "Howl" begins with a unique and distinctive intro that feels like being in space, and Chuu's a capella vocals without instrumentation, to add tension and immersion to the piece. The intense beat and explosive bass-line-based melody in the chorus combine with Chuu's detail-oriented vocals to maximize the song's mood. • [Article] EDaily Interview with Vivi (200930)

[Reporter Kim Hyun-sik, EDaily StarIn] How do foreigner idols, who came to Korea with dreams of becoming a K-pop idol, spend their time? We asked five idols, who are working actively as they roam the music scene in all kinds of ways, about their Chuseok holiday plans. - Ed. note "Orbits, have a good holiday and see you on October 19th." These are the words of Vivi, a member of the group Loona who are busy in comeback preparations. Vivi is planning to spend most of her time over this Chuseok weekend in the practice room, as her team Loona has an impending comeback. Loona will release a new mini album, Midnight (12:00), on October 19 and enter new promotions. "We have the comeback coming up, so I've been practicing consistently with the members and I've also been getting PT. I think I'll still be doing comeback prep over the long weekend, getting dance lessons. Still, it's a holiday and a special day, so I want to eat some Chuseok food with the members." Vivi is the only foreigner among Loona's 12 members. Though she is spending this Chuseok in the practice room with comeback prep, Vivi said she has spent Chuseok at fellow member Hyunjin's home. "One time I went to Hyunjin's place to spend Chuseok weekend. It was a fascinating and cool experience, because I was able to watch how Chuseok meals get made and how they give memorial rites, and really feel Korea's Chuseok culture that way." She says that if she got a vacation on the next holiday, she would like to enjoy refreshments with family. "In my hometown, we have holiday foods that are only sold for two months during the Chuseok period. Just like songpyeon in Korea, we enjoy these during Chuseok and there's a delicious variety, so I think of that when Chuseok comes around." When she looks to Chuseok's full moon, she plans to make a wish about her family, Loona, and the fans. "Everyone is going through hard times because of COVID-19, right. I hope good days will come soon and that I can meet the fans in person and see my family too. And after the comeback, I want to be really active through variety shows, including music shows, and other diverse content with the members, and have a fun time." Vivi, saying "I can't wait to come back and show fans our performances," also did not neglect a request for fans to enjoy Loona's comeback-related content over the Chuseok holiday. "Loona's Midnight album concepts photos have been coming out on social media. Through the diverse concepts you'll be able to feel a vibe and mysteriousness that Loona hasn't shown off before." Lastly, Vivi provided this message for the fans. "Orbits, you're having a joyful holiday, right? The day we can meet is approaching. If you wait for us just a little bit as you look at the Loona concept photos, we'll come to you shortly. Let's have a good time together. Hope you have a great holiday, eating delicious songpyeon." • [Article] VIBE Magazine Interview with LOONA (201029)

LOONA will Invite you to the Midnight Festival With their comeback, LOONA invites girls from all over the world to gather under the moon at midnight to hold a festival together. A mysteriousness that makes me feel like I'm going to be sucked into the subtly strange LOONAverse just by playing the album. But the real LOONA members that met with VIBE were the definition of pure, only thinking about their stages and fans. Q: LOONA has a very unique storyline with the keyword of "moon." What would you say the narrative point is in your latest album? In the last album [#] there was a story about LOONA burning up the moon as a sort of trigger for all LOONAs in the world. In this album, you could say that LOONA expects a new moon to rise, and they hold an exciting festival at midnight with all LOONAs in the world, when the moon shines the brightest. Q: What time does 12:00 represent? Just as it appears, it represents midnight. The number 12 also indicates that LOONA has twelve members. Q: This album you've added the slogan "With all LOONAs around the world," could you explain that? In the previous albums [X X] and [#], LOONA has consistently sent a message for all LOONAs around the world. Until now, if LOONA has been sending one-way messages to LOONAs around the world, in this album we wanted to talk about LOONA being with all LOONAs around the world in a two-way interaction, with everyone being free and equal. Q: There are 8 new songs. It has been 8 months since your last release - what was the driving force for having so many songs? There are many reasons, but we think the biggest one is the love and support that Orbits have sent towards LOONA. We want to show ourselves doing well and always improving. With every new album we think about how we can show an improved and still-improving LOONA, and when we think of Orbits liking our latest comeback, it encourages us with newfound energy. Q: Where there any particular points the members focused on while recording for this album? I think we focused on the mood for each song. As the album contains many moods and song genres, we thought it was important to express the unique aspects of each song too. We tried to make sure that the many people who listen to the album feel its fullness and many colors. Q: The powerful image we got from your last release "So What" seems to be continued here with "Why Not." What do you think about the idea of "girl crush?" We think it's one of the various colors that LOONA can present. If with "So What" we presented charisma and girl crush that was similar to the standard, in "Why Not" we wanted to show you a girl crush that feels more like leadership, with lyrics like "just follow me." We plan to continue thinking about performances that express cool and strong images in various ways. Q: The visual concept for this album really reminds one of a moonlit festival. In what ways did you present images of a festival in LOONA's own style? As this is a festival enjoyed with all LOONAs around the world, we included festival looks with many different vibes. A festival style that's elegant, as if attending a ball, a party version full of uniqueness and dazzling, a casual yet bohemian style version, and a version that shows a festival that everyone enjoys as one - we tried to pull off a lot of different festival looks. Q: In terms of performance, is there anything special about the choreography that takes advantage of having many members, or makes all members stand out evenly? This album holds the meaning that beyond lines, boundaries, and prejudice, all LOONAs around the world are one and always together, so we tried to make everyone feel that everyone is together in the performance. As the people watching LOONA also assimilate to become one, you'll also see a trendy performance that's appealing to the senses, hopefully to enjoy the Midnight Festival with us. Q: LOONA was formed with one member being revealed every month. The unique debut process itself was special and must've required an immense amount of effort. While your activities continue, how about we think back to when you debuted? Every time a member was revealed, I got excited, waiting for the moment where we'd all get together. And I still remember the first performance of "Hi High" where we performed as a full group. Between being extremely nervous and excited, I had a ton of mixed emotions. The cheering of Orbits, and how the members looked by my side as they performed, it's engraved in my memory. During the solo debut process there were unit activities as well, and I remember solo releases and unit activities feeling different. Q: We always leave open the chance of making it onto the Billboard main chart, the possibility of overseas performances including English versions of songs. What do you think are LOONA's characteristics or unique qualities that global fans like? I think it's that all 12 members of LOONA have their own charms and visual traits. Despite being a group with many, 12, members, I think the fans like our unique balance of charm and other vibes that harmoniously add together. Also I think that when we show beautifully composed performances onstage, we appeal in a different way as compared to the cute side we typically show. Q: A message you'd like to send to the fans? I'm always just thankful that for you always loving and supporting LOONA. We want to return even more than the love that you send to LOONA, and we always want to show us doing well. LOONA exists because of Orbits, so I hope that Orbits will stay on our path for a long, long time to come. Orbit, I love you! Original Article

Jinsoul: To think of a Billboard main chart appearance, it really doesn't feel real and I can't believe it. It was the kind of chart I only dreamt of, a huge goal, and I'm so happy that we could climb up there. • [Article] Hankook Ilbo Interview with LOONA (210127)

"Charting in US Radio Chart Top 40 following BTS... Great honor" "It's an honor to be able to follow after the seniors we admire and be named alongside them." Girl group Loona has made a big splash. They've charted into the Mediabase North American Radio Chart Top 40, a barometer of local popularity in the U.S. Mediabase is a chart that analyzes radio play counts within the U.S., considered a leading metric for gauging popularity among the American public. There have only been four K-pop artists to enter the Mediabase Top 40, including BTS, Blackpink, and Monsta X. Considering that BTS has proven its U.S. popularity by sweeping the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts, and Blackpink and Monsta X have established themselves through major achievements there, this record by Loona who are in just their third year since debut is even more meaningful. Having proven their presence as the up-and-coming global trend, Loona shared their thoughts on the Mediabase Top 40 chart-in through a written interview with the Hankook Ilbo on the 26th. Go Won, first expressing gratitude that "We had this great achievement thanks to our Orbits and I'm so happy," also expressed her aspirations: "We'll become a Loona who works even harder going forward, so that we can help K-pop be known in more diverse ways, following in the footsteps of awesome seniors." Olivia Hye revealed her swelling emotion, saying "It's an honor to be able to follow after the seniors we admire and be named alongside them, and we'll show you great things so that we can be just as good of an influence as much as you love us." Next, Yeojin said "I think of it as an honor that we got to enter this chart following after awesome seniors," and urged looking forward to next steps: "We'll work even harder so that we can show you even more growth as Loona." Entering the U.S. Billboard 200 main chart for the first time last year with third mini album [12:00], Loona accelerated their popularity there. Not only that, Loona also set own records including entering the U.S. Rolling Stone Top 200 chart for two consecutive weeks and the U.K. official album download chart Top 100, evidencing their rapid global growth. Loona, having captured the U.S. music market not to mention the domestic one, were asked on the secret traits that helped them capture global fans and named the spirit of trying diverse concepts, members armed with diverse charms, and the "Loonaverse" worldbuilding that connects these things organically. Jinsoul said "We try to include songs from different genres in each album and try new concepts to show off different sides of us, and I think people enjoy that. With each album release we are always thinking carefully about what new thing to show you next." Further, Yeojin said "The unique thing about us is that the Loonaverse story is well-incorporated into different corners of the album. I think many fans enjoy this lore and the connections between members and units. And I think they look fondly on our music and performance too so we're always working to improve these things too." Olivia Hye added a response full of affection for the members. "Another strength is that all 12 members have distinctive character with personality, based on different charms. Along with our strong lore, I think this might be why global fans love our music." As they garner attention for notable achievements on domestic and foreign charts despite the coronavirus pandemic, Loona wrapped up the interview by expressing plans for continuing to interact with global fans via diverse "untact" [no-contact/remote] activities. Olivia Hye expressed disappointment regarding the COVID-19 circumstances, saying "As this unfortunate situation has persisted for a while, our disappointment at not being able to meet the fans and our longing to see them are growing." Continuing, she spoke about her goals: "However, many people have been working hard to give us a chance to meet fans in ways like online concerts, video call fansigns, and untact interviews. Alongside diverse content like this, we're going to keep making and planning opportunities to interact with fans in real time. Though we may be physically apart, we want to help Orbits feel that Loona is always by their side." Meanwhile, Loona opened recruitment for the third cohort of its official fanclub "Orbit" on the 22nd. Orbit 3.0 recruitment will continue until the 5th of next month. Original Article
